I voted Essendon 2000 because I have memories of a team who seemed unbeatable that season, topped with Lloyd in 100 goal kicking touch. Lost only the 1 game and their % was superb. Then they swept through the finals blitzing everyone in their path.

As powerful as Geelong were in 2007, they nearly didn't get to play in the Grand Final, scraping in against Collingwood in the preliminary final.

I will say though that the standard of opposition in both 2000 and 2007 Grand Finals were very average indeed. If Geelong can get through without losing another game, and also dominate the finals, I may squeeze them in ahead of Essendon 2000.

I would add that the opposition apart from the GF opponent was stronger in 2000. In 2000, Collingwood finished 15th with 7 wins. In 2007 there were about 4 teams that were barely competitive. In 2000 NM were still very strong and Melbourne also had a very good season despite their GF performance.

Sometimes one dominant team can say as much about the standard of the competition as it does about that one team.

No disrespect to Geelong07 tho - it's up there with Carlton95 and Essendon2000 but I would also put the Bombers of 2000 on top, just.

We also shouldn't forget Roos 1999, Eagles 1994, Hawks 1991 and Lions 2003 - even tho there weren't as dominant over the comp as the 3 stand-out single season teams.

It would be good to do a fantasy team match-up, position for position, on some of these sides and try to pick the greatest since 1990.

Essendon in 2000 for me.

Won the pre season comp in a canter.

Only beaten once, by just over a kick all year.

Had an average winning margin of about 8 goals.

Destroyed Kangaroos in the first final, beat Carlton (2nd best team all year) by 8 goals in the Prelim, and similar to last year, they beat Melbourne in a canter...a young team that reached their full potential but essentially werent a grand final calibre team.

Also had the most team Brownlow votes in history.

I selected Essendon 2000 only because Geelong 2008 isn't an option yet! This years Geelong team would have to be the most dominant team I've seen.

If the Cats do win the flag, and its a big chance they will, i think their overall year last year will be ranked a bit higher than this season.

Even if they only have 1 loss for the season?
How do you figure that?

The amount of All Australians they had, Brownlow medallist, their average winning margin etc etc.
