Apology to Rucci

Postby Wedgie » Wed Jul 23, 2008 10:16 am

In today's paper Rucci stated "We look forward to the Geelong FC issuing a strong apology the next time it declares anything that is later proven to be wrong. We're still waiting for an apology for a few misleading statements it has made in the past".

Mr Rucci, on behalf of the Geelong Football Club I'd like to apologise for the following statements made by Tom Harley on the 23rd of september which were extremely misleading statements in the lead up to the Grand Final:

"I think we're two really evenly matched sides"

"As far as match-ups go, it's probably as tight as we get, and the same with Collingwood last week. They're probably the two sides that match up with us really well."

And to Mr Rucci I apologise sincerely for any other indication anyone who has any connection with Geelong may have given that Port might be competitive or show a bit of heart in the Grand Final. It was completely uncalled for and completely misleading, I hope you accept my apology.

Gloat, gloat, gloat.

I like Geelong, but I'm starting to really hope they lose this year's GF ;)

Not gloating at all, Rucci raised an issue, perhaps he should worry about his own club before he worries about the greatest team of all, it all stemmed from the Geelong general manager of media having a go at bookies for spreading false rumours about Gary Ablett Jnrs injury so they could profit. Fair enough I would have thought? Of course Rucci has to have a go, anything to deflect the attention from the Power's season.
Hopefully the Cats will win another one to stick it up this peanuts backside even further, we should all be hoping for that!

Diverting attention? How many articles has the guy done on Port's problems this year???? I've actually developed a new found respect for the bloke after this season. He has asked some big questions of the club this year.
On the same page he has had a crack at Mark Williams and the lack of Port supporters at the Showdown.

Check out his Roast, swipes at just about every club except for Port.
I think the last thing a Port supporters should be doing is worrying about how Geelong are travelling this year.
Only time I met the bloke he gloated about his team being in the AFL, well I feel I can gloat about my team being in the AFL too especially when his team is my team's bitches!!
Ive been a fan of his in the past but a Port supporter having a go at Geelong and telling them what they're doing wrong? Come on!

I've read his Roast today - and as I said, he actually had a crack at Port, Mark Williams' comments regarding the lack of Adelaide supporters at the Showdown and how Port's fans didn't show.

If that's not having a crack at Port, I don't know what is.

Fair enough but Mark Williams is a twit and is involved with a crap club.
Geez mate, you'd think you were a journo the way you stick up for some of these peanuts.
After the way Rucci carried on to my face Im going to bite back every time he has a crack at my club especially when my club is probably the best one going around of all time whilst his is one of the most embarassing.
If I see "Cat" in a headling but don't see "Port" or "Power" in a heading anywhere I will have a crack.
Any chance you can copy and paste his dig of the Power supporters into the topic where some felt the need to blame Crows fans? It would be quite appropriate!

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, I do sincerely apologise for those misleading comments he made, he asked for a strong apology and Ive given it to him, I thought that was very nice of me!
Crikey, I make a sincere apology to a journo and I still get journos having a crack at me!

I won't disagree there

I'm not defending Rucci because of my profession, I've had a crack at the past, just applying some balance to your comment that "he's diverting attention".
People have a go at him for being biased, which on some occasions is fair - but it's hard to justify those accusations this season.

Without wanting to weight into your debate, I do agree with what you've said there DW.

I find it really frustrating when Crows supporters read (or don't) Rucci's article's and load up on him, basically because it's Rucci - The article itself is often irrelevant.

Power fans do the same with McDermott.

Both of them (Rucci and McDermott) aren't blokes I always agree with (far from it), but supporters rarely seem to "play the ball on it's merits", it's just an instant reaction when they see the author imho.

Hey, he can get into the Crows all he likes as just like his team they're carp.
Geelong, the greatest team of all on the other hand...... :?
The last thing a supporter of the worst club ever in a Grand Final whos team is near the bottom of the table should be worried about is how the best club ever in a Grand Final currently sitting top and pretty is travelling.
He should worry about issues closer to home me thinks, perhaps he could get along to a Magpies game and tell us why they're not in the finals.
Him having any sort of go at Geelong would be like someone involved with a Div 4 Amateur club telling Central's how they're travelling!

There's issues that the Adelaide-based media outlets (as well as the Bookies it seems) are having with Geelong at the moment as I understand. I can't remember his name or title, but the guy at Geelong who made the comment about the bookies allegedly is very difficult to deal with. They struggle to get Geelong players for interviews for example.

I sensed agro towards the same guy by KG & Cornesy last night. Maybe both sides have the gloves off and Rucci is partly flying the flag?

Having said that, Balmey is a regular on 5AA and Mike Sheahan last night said he found Geelong fine to deal with.

I have to support DW by saying that it sounds like the relationship between the Power and Rucci is at an all-time low this year from his ongoing negative comments about the club, in particular Mark Williams.
In between signatures .....

What's with the repeated greatest team of all crap???? One in a row makes you the greatest team of ALL???? maybe when they string three together ala Brisbane, or dominate like Hawthorn in the late eighties they can lay claim....
Hi, My name is Ron 'Bluey' Dunn. Did you know I played in the 61 & 62 Tasman Premiership sides....

Yes, I said team, not club, show me another team that has had as many All Australians, Brownlows, AFLPA medals and won a premiership by 119points and get back to me.
Plus our song says so!
If we do the same for the next few years then we can add club to the list but we'll cross that path if it ever occurs.

You might owe Rucci an apology by misrepresenting as deflecting attention Wedgie.

His article under the Roast, highlighting Port's leadership issues, is clearly not deflecting attention from the Power. ;)

Definately in the top 5 or 6 single seasons of all time, probably on a par with Carlton 95, but behind Essendon 00.

Still, theyve got a way to go before they can be compared to the most successful eras of all time - Brisbane, Hawthorn in the 80s, Melbourne and Collingwoods 4 in a row.

They are looking good to go the double.

Nup, as far as awards and winning Grand Finals by 119pts they all fall short of last year's team.
Anyway, we're getting off topic chaps, this topic was me making a sincere heartfelt apology to Mr Rucci for misleading statement made by people associated with Geelong! :D

Only the margin I'd reckon, Brisbane had 3 Brownlow medallists in their last premiership team and at least 1 AFLPA winner and I'd guess more All-Australians on a collective basis.

Ok ... Now we can get back on topic
