I really don't like any of them but my favourite out of them would have to be the Stingrays!

On the AFL website they are running a poll very similar to this but they have one more option and it is, none of them, and that option is winning by far!

Don't like any of them, they all sound rather Grid Iron.
Sharks may be more like it.

THE Gold Coast bid team have drawn up a shortlist of five for the nickname of the club hoping to be included in the AFL in 2011.

Following the first stage of community input, the names under consideration for the prospective club are Ironmen, Marlins, Guards, Rays and Stingrays.

The GC17 bid team's selection criteria has ruled out public suggestions including Sharks, Cougars, Dolphins and Pirates - all current or past nicknames used by Coast sporting clubs.

The selection process will continue with the club's name to be announced during the 2008 AFL finals series in early September.

GC17 general manager Scott Munn said the club's board received a large public response hundreds of suggestions put forward during the community process.

The five-point selection criteria included community input, legal analysis, commercial viability, branding success, and alignment with the new club's values.

"We have been through a very detailed process following the public submissions," Munn said on Monday.

"This included the creation of selection criteria that highlighted any potential issues with using each name."

None of the above. In fact the side should not even be created. Unless a side folds no new sides should come in. Who came up with these names anyway? Guards, Ironmen  LMAO. As if Power and Dockers weren't bad enough

1. Stingrays -probably the best, my pick
2. Marlins -okay
Ironmen -similar theme to the Titans -too late for that one now...
4. Rays -limp version of #1
5. Guards -laughable

Basically they were limited in choice with better names taken by other Aussie Rules teams and other codes.

The Gold Coast Ironmen Ha ha ha ha. What a name to choose and expect to be taken seriously. No doubt Power and Dockers fans would all vote for Ironmen because they would no longer have the most ridiculous monikers.

Why not the Gold Coast Gulls?

The Gold Coast Meter Maids?

They could have gold in their uniforms and hand out change for the meters.....

Of course I'd like to see the mascot!

Sharks was the preferred moniker, except problems came about because southport in the QAFL and cronulla in the NRL already use it and have trademarks and patents over it. stingrays probably the best of the rest, just imagine 22 young stingers playing their first game.

Stingrays is easily the best of the bunch, but on the Ironmen theme, maybe they could go with the Gold Coast Hendys!

I like the Gold Coast Marlins. I don't mind the Rays - that being the sunshine rays as indicative on the logo.
