The might like the romance of the reunion, but in realism they don't need Carr.

They'd be crazy to pick him up, but I see it happening because of what Williams has said in the press.

No doubt, but then wouldn't Mark Johnson, Dean Solomon, Kepler Bradley? I think you send a massively negative message to your playing group by bringing someone like that in.

You need another ruckman. The only thing that's dropped away significantly this year is your ability to win the ruck. Lade's paid for that in part by being relegated, but your on field brigade hasn't changed much since getting you to a grand final. So why bring someone like that in? Second part to that is if Carr plays, which youngster misses out on game time. I suggest someone like Thompson/Lower perhaps. I know who I'd invest time in for the future, and it's not Carr.

Carr has played at Port so its not like bringing in a complete outsider.............like Johnson or Solomon.
Agreed Re:Lade but there still isn't that hard/antagonist type player in the midfield to stir it up at times.
But like I said I'd only consider him if he came cheap.

Wasn't meaning he is an outsider AF, more that he's an older bloke.

Trust me, as an outsider, I hope you do go after him. It will tell me that Williams is going in a completely different direction to most other clubs. But the same way as Freo.

I should add, you might well get him for nothing, cos you are dealing with Freo here!

I hope they don't target older players in the draft...............but there is always room for one old premiership player to come back!!!
I think he played a big part in the 04 Premiership..................maybe I'm living in the past!
Thompson/Thomas/Bentley and co. will be good players in the next couple of years..............but I think we could lose one of them for Carr to come back.

Amber, you have to remember, THIS draft is the most important of all. With the new clubs coming in drafting an old bloke might be a big mistake. That's providing they get him with a very very high draft pick (pick 96 or something) of course!

you're certainly right regarding this next draft............VERY important!! But I think if Port can pick up 1 or 2 experienced and hardnut type players and throw them in the mix with the current youngsters, then Port are a chance to play off in another GF in the next year or two. IMO.
The romantic reunion does sound good though..................

Guerra had off field problems, and the club got Montgomery for Eagleton so both deals were reasonable.

Would i be correct in saying Port as it stand would be pick 5 in the 2009 pre-season draft?

Could be a chance at getting him for free if a deal couldnt be struck.

Agree pre-season draft only, wouldn't waste a national draft pick on him. IMO he is too slow for current game style and as he is aging is not the imtimidator he once was.

I can't decide on this one, despite having several cracks at trying to ....

On one hand he's 28, may not necessarially return to what he was, is not getting any quicker and trading for 28 year olds is usually a recipe for failure

However .....

If there's one type of player the Power are missing from their pace-setting teams of 2001-2004 it's the hard in-and-under type like Francou, Carr or James. The guys who got in where it's tough and found the hard footy. It might be Carr can give them a boost in that area while their younger crop develops.

In hindsight, moving over there was a backwards step for both Josh and the Power.

Port are pretty well off in the youngster stakes, and I reckon the addition of Josh not only makes them a better contender next year, but also provides value in what he can teach the Boaks and Salopeks et al ... No brainer for mine, I would take him back for sure.
