Gavin Wanganeen 300 Games. Anthony Koutafedies 250 Games.

Well done to both of these champion players on these significant milestones. Wangas has nothing to prove in the game of football after winning two flags and snaffling the Brownlow medal and appearing in Port's first premiership side. Kouta in his prime was simply one of the best footballers I have seen and pre-empted the trend of 'super' athletic players. Injury has robbed football of one of the all time greats but the glimpes were there to see before he injured himself in the early years of this decade.

Well done Kouta and Wangas, a top effort.

regards,

REB

Wangas went for Norwood when he was a kid, but only played for Port because he was in one of their zones. That's what he said on 5AA.

Yeah, Salisbury North boys are zoned Port and live less than 2 km's from Elizabeth. Wanga's, Hodges ,etc. If only they'd worn the tri-colours.

Don't forget the Dayman brothers from the 1920s! They were Salisburyites as well.

Hodges actually played for Salisbury West, as did Stephen Carter and Che Cockatoo-Collins.

The Bond boys also came from Salisbury North, Mark Clayton played junior footy at Salisbury and Clive Waterhouse played at Para Hills.

Could even go a bit further with the Pooraka boys like Dwayne Russell, Crag Bradley and Alan Didak since Pooraka is just inside the Salisbury Council area.

So yeah, Port has done pretty well from the northern suburbs in recent years.

But you did get Jarrod Cotton from Salisbury.

Having said that, I doubt they would have had the same impact on the SANFL at the time with Central than they did with Port, especially Hodges.
