Carlton v Essendon Best Matches?

Postby JK » Sun Jun 22, 2008 7:44 pm

Do any two teams give us more regular "crackers" than Carlton v Essendon? I know Sydney and West Coast in recent times gave us some nailbiters, but for mine you can't go past the Blues v Dons.

Spot on CP, you can't beat pure hate.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Always look forward to these games, one of the few games each season that I go out of my way to make sure I see it on the tele.

Ha...both my teams still above yours though

Spoke to a Bombers mate ( I use the term mate loosely  ) and we both had a laugh
on how good the games are...

Always a good game, and usually whoever is travelling not as well gets up

Still enjoy beating Collingwood a touch more, but then the Bummers & the Dees for me !!

No place for Richmond any more mate, you guys had a pretty massive rivalry in the 70's and early 80's??

I think the fact these 2 clubs are tied on the same number of premierships adds something between the clubs as well.

Isn't that the truth of it. I reckon every time we play each other the underdog always rises to the challenge.

I hate going in favourite vs Essendon!

I'm just disappointed we've been on the wrong end of two good games this season involving the Bombers.

These matches probably resemble a true game of footy the most. You only need to look at the lower number of stats (particularly handball).

Historically, yes ... tough rivalry and some classic matches. However, it is 2008, and both are very average teams. Don't expect too much, although being played on a Saturday afternoon will help. All the best footy is played on a SATURDAY AFTERNOON Mr Demetriou, do NOT dare play the Grand Final at any other time.

Yes, nothing like a 2 year rivalry to get the blood pumping.

Id say in the current format of 16 teams, Port v Brisbane would be up there in terms of closeness of results.

Carlton v Essendon have played the best H&A game ive seen - late in 2000, on a Friday night in front of 93,000 at the G.

Brisbane/Collingwood have a great rivalry too.

But the best game I have ever seen remains the famous Essendon comeback against the Kangaroos.
I reckon it was in 1999 and both teams scored around the 150 mark.
