just when i thought you were turning our great game into a " girls " game [sorry girls just a footy expression ]. i see on the news tonight thatit is not the case. your organisation in its wisdom has decided that girls of a certain age cannot play against their male counterparts. what a load of rubbish. what of your "Women in Football" policy?, does it not apply to players of any age, or ability just to get out there and have a go if you want respect for women in football start looking at the junior level, not in your 'rarified' air of the "elite level" you will see that girls can compete as well as, and sometimes better than their male counerparts. why exclude these potential future players purely on gender? i admit the chances are low but sometimes a longshot gets up. maybe the Federal Govt Equalities person? should have alook at the setup that the AFL has in place. is it legal? is it fair? can they play at the top level? just give them the chance to go as far as they can

jeez.... c'mon, the AFL has got that one right.
Men & Women have different body shapes & sizes, & it's for the same reason Men can't play Women's Netball- it has to be a level playing field!
Just imagine the up-roar; a woman makes it to senior footy, & in the first game she plays, gets crunched by a well-timed, legal hip & shoulder- the guy would be (wrongly) strung up & criticized!

It's just ridiculous to think otherwise.

punkrooster, i know it's far fetched but i was only looking at it from a "fair go" thing for the girls involved. our great game should embrace everyone who wants to have a go no matter what size ,shape and ability [and you would know, being involved in local footy, that is what you get at that level],or gender. if they are good enough they will earn their spot. i doubt if they would make it to "senior level" but if they did i'm sure they would've proven themselves many times over before a coach or club would take the "risk".

This is just a ridiculous argument. Women are simply not physically built to compete in against men. That's not having a go at women as there are many things women are better at than men but to suggest women should be competing against men in football is just stupid.

They have women's football leagues- they have an opportunity.

Fair go? How about women bugger off and let blokes have something for ourselves, that sounds like a fair go.

Besides, if you give the AFL 10 years the game will be soft enough for women so just wait a while.

I remember Two Wells senior colts having a girl for a captain. The girls, their parents and the club know the risks, let them play. None of the AFL's business.

come on old moz. this is a ridiculous arguement. I think your trying to win some womens heart. Women will never play top level football. Not built enough and rarely capable compared to elite male footballers. Erin Phillips(adelaide lightning) won an association medal in under 14's i think it was and Im sure she will say the same as what I have just said.

fairs fair Big Shrek. Its not like there being sexest. This rule is based on years of research in the football community. They are only looking out for the girls wellbeings. Personally I dont think they were much chop anyway.

i know about the women's league and did say the possibilities of a female playing "senior" footy are low. my beef is with the AFL and other junior assoc. telling girls that they cannot play after reaching a certain age, let them play on and ability and performance will determine how far they go. i believe most would give it up eventually [due to reasons others have stated ] but it should be for them to decide not some 'pooh bar' in an office.

Did they consider challenging the AFL's decision under the Sex Discrimination Act or an Equal Opportunity Act?

okay, so lets say they do go out and break a leg.. whos to blame then. The AFL is preventing it. Early prevention is the best cure. And for them to say its unfair that they would have to play women A Grade is rubbish. there is no way women A Grade is harder then boys football even at this young age. It is soft as.

bub, many blokes come off the footy field each week with injuries [ unfortunately some with broken legs ] but i dont think they point the finger at the AFL and say 'your fault'. forget all the arguements about if females can or cannot , should or should not play against males. that is not the issue. these kids want to play a sport [ aussie football ] and the AFL is stopping them purely on a gender and age issue, and that is what is wrong.
