I know ive gone on about this before but today is a classic example....on TV today we have -

Port/Sydney Ch 10 and FOX
Adelaide/WCE Ch 10 and FOX

So we miss any LIVE coverage or Freo/Carlton and Essendon/Richmond yet again get these game covered by 2 networks

We can get league, Union, Netball, NBA all live today maybe others wil start watching this and not put up with the crap we are dealt by the AFL and their TV rights, I guess they have the $$ in the bank and the fans dont really matter...

In this day and age we should have the option of watching a game somewhere somehow....NSW viewers can get the Ess/Rich game on Main Event channel but here in Adelaide we cant access, like sleeping in seperate beds on your wedding night

I though the Essendon Richmond game was the highlight of the Indigenous Round???? Yet we cant access it? what sort of promotion is that?

Why not at least offer these games via the internet (even for a small fee)? Why can this be done in the day of Internet, Digital, High Def channels?

Surely doing this cant promote the game, only gives it potential to drive fans away......Carlton/Ess/Rich fans what do we think of this????

The mentality that they only show Port/Adelaide games and ignore a vast base of interstate
team supporters is beyond me...

Question...Why couldn't Channel 10 show the Carlton/Essendon game on the digital channel
and the Port/Crows game on the other one ?

I thought the whole point of broadcast planning was to gradually move all the AFL to Foxtel, most popular games first, so that we are forced to subscribe, but gradually so there is no big protest pollies may feel the need to take seriously.

It parallels the situation were the MPs would never dare approve timed local phone calls on land lines, even for a big kick back to party funds, but will let land lines be gradually priced out of the market so we are all using mobiles and paying for timed local calls eventually.

No point having a rant here, email Foxtel, or better still ring them. I'm a Carlton supporter, and I had to listen to the broadband ABC broadcast from Melbourne.

It seems ridiculous that in 2008 we have to listen to the broadcast on the net when two channels are broadcasting the same game.

I would've thought pubs would be the big loser. Two screens, both games on, they could cater for all fans. This way they have the Live AFL on Fox and some dud movie on Ch 10.

Common sense should prevail. But it wont.

in victoria we are getting Essendon Vs richmond tonight. but to channel 10 in SA the crows and the power are more important for their ratings.

Actually, I've been running a bit of a campaign, and I do email them and the AFL [indirectly*] reasonably often, and I've had phone and email conversations with Telstra, who substantially own Foxtel, from my position as a Telstra shareholder not primarily interested in maximising my dividends to the detriment of supporters, but of course it is an empty exercise unless I can get lots of other people to do the same. They say polite things, but they have a business plan they won't change unless there is a lot of pressure.

I'm in the same boat - I'm in Victoria and I rarely get Crows or Port games other than via the Internet on the AFL site. I assume they want to make the pubs to all subscribe to Foxtel too...

I posted my comment here to point out why the AFL won't ever "start treating your fans with respect please", in response to posts here. If you want to have a rant about that issue here just to let off steam without changing anything, fine, but, if you want to do anything more, join me in having a go at the AFL. If enough people join in they may start to re-think their "in your pocket" arrangements with Telstra/Foxtel.

*Getting to the AFL itself is tricky - they don't give out direct "Contact Us" details because they don't want emails, or any other feedback. Emails from the web site go via BigPond and negative ones may never be passed on. I have tried contacting the Crows and Port directly to try to get them to talk to the AFL, but that is not going to achieve much unless thousands of us do so. They just ignore it too, presumably trusting the AFL's "wisdom".

So, if it matters to you start emailing your AFL club.

Being based in Adelaide, and barracking for a non SA team you are treated as a second class citizen by all media.

Nah the Adelaide/WCE game is on FOX everywhere, thats the issue its a FOX game but Ch10 take their coverage due to the rule that Crows and Power have to be on FTA, therefore Ch10 coverage of Ess/Rich goes unwatched in SA

Gadj - When I was in the car I found on 1125am (no idea what station it was) 3aw's call and it was quite clear...

1125am is the Murray Bridge station, 5MU.

I understand mate, it works the same way in reverse here, as I learned after we moved here from Adelaide!
Before Adelaide entered the AFL, I used to slightly favour Hawthorn as a VFL team, to the extent I took any interest in VFL.

Its just one of the querks of how the games are televised unfortunately.

Its Foxs game to show as they had the rights to it. They wouldnt have had the broadcasting rights to the other games. Unfortunately it means its on both channels. Happened last year a few times as well.

but Fox put on the Ch10 game in the Northern states on the Main Event channel, yet we dont have access to it....they get better coverage than we do

Todays Brisbane game will be Live into Brisbane.

I suspect Foxtel put up the big money and they get to choose what they want first.

Didn't realise there was a thread about this. We had 2 FROM 4 games yesterday.

2 games with NO TV coverage or NO radio coverage. This is 2008. The non football states get 8 live games a week, and we missed out on 2 games in a day. PATHETIC!

If Foxtel have the rights to a game and the Commercial network chooses to broadcast the same game over an interstate match, the commercial network should be required to make a feed available of the match they dont want to Channel 31.

Anti-Siphoning laws are supposed to stop networks from buying sports game rights then not showing the said match. Test Cricket has been made available to C31 under this rule, so the interstate footy games should be the same.
