Clash Jumpers

I was watching the Footy Show last night, and found it ridiculous that Collingwood's clash jumper was pretty much identical to their home jumper! I thought the point of a clash jumper was because you "clash" with another club or clubs. Now Collingwood mainly clash with Nth Melbourne, so why would you not design a clash jumper that is different to Nth Melbourne's??? And how could the AFL approve such a joke for a second guernsey??? And what a bigger joke that now the AFL are forcing Nth Melbourne to wear their clash jumper because the Collingwood home and clash jumpers clash with Nth Melbourne's home guernsey! UTTER DISGRACE!

The colour coordination has been reversed. Instead of black then white stripes, it's now white then black stripes. The difference is glaringly obvious.

Easy answer, Collingwood = big money earner for the Telstra/Foxtel/AFL triumvirate, and nothing else matters.

All you see is black & white stripes when you are in close and under pressure - the order is meaningless.

Sarcasm didn't translate too well.

Last year they paid a large sum to the Kangaroos for wearing the away strip in their home game.

Their "clash" jumper is basically what they always used to wear until they adopted the current monstrosity with the all black back :vom:

There was a guernsey they wore many years back, must've been for the pre-season, which was predominantly white with a small magpie emblem on the front. I quite liked that.

I can't find anything matching that description on http://www.footyjumpers.com. Would be surprised if that site has any jumper designs missing.

My memory failed me. I reckon I was thinking of the 1998-2000 away guernsey. Why I thought it was predominantly white...?

Cheers Rod, thats an awesome site!

As for the Collingwood and North Melbourne argument, Collingwood always seem like they are higher than every other team, they always seem to get on the better side of the AFL, everything falls their way.

I hope North Melbourne stick it right up em and wear their home gurnsey, cause Collingwood just keep getting away with it!

How bad is the 1996 - 1997 pre season "barcode" jumper   Collingwood might have been ahead of their time though. Could be used to scan the players as they come through the interchange gate. Might solve the current interchange fiasco

Bit of a sweeping statement.

Though I do think the Collingwood powers that be need to get a bit of iconoclasticism up their bloody bums and forego their stubborn position on the clash guernsey.

for all these scholistic comments, some of you might like to consider the fact that the AFL are the ones letting the tail wag the dog...

Hey, the Hawks know how to butcher a jumper design as well as anyone no doubt but there is only so much you can do with the colours  The current Collingwood jumper is awful compared to the clash jumper you have. Not sure why they ever changed from the predominantly white back.

Whilst i previously pointed out how bad the Collingwood 1997 - 98 pre season jumper was i should offer a balanced view though and point to the Hawthorn 1995 pre season guernsey. Only worn once thank god. Think is was against Sydney in Canberra. I challenge anyone to find a worse guernsey than that

As for the 2000 t-shirt style effort, WTF were they thinking?

Is that the one that looked like an "old private school" vest, with vomit on it?

Firstly, R-R that' a great web-site!

Secondly, on the Hawthorn guernsey I always liked brown and gold - it's the **** white square on the back I can't stand! Why, why, why. I know it's a 60s/70s throwback thing but they did white squares back then because of the way they were manufactured. All it does now is add white to the colour scheme and then create more clashes.

Each year I hope it will go away and each year it comes back  :D

As for Collingwood, I agree the old mostly white guernsey was far better. The new outfit has in fact created more clashes which is ironic seeing as they are a club that resists wearning clash guernseys. Well, Eddie if you hadn't changed it to black it wouldn't be such an issue .....

There's some terrible designs on there, a whole topic in itself. The Brisbane Bears cerise guernsey...Bad.

Doesn't everyone know that Eddie and Collingwood run the AFL. Do whatever they want. Apparently it's in the Collingwood Constiution that they can't change from the black and white stripes, that's what they say.
