Good win by the Cats away from home (well every pre-season game has been away from home for them) with a very very very young side.
Must admit it suprised me and I'm a Cats man, very proud of the effort the lads put in.
My main concern is how Cameron Ling is.

And am I the only one who thought Mooney got ripped off from a Tuck medal?

Goodwin was rated the 5th best player on the ground behind 4 Cats players and took it out, WTF?

If you were an ump giving a 3 2 1 on the game you'd have to go 3-Cam Mooney(Gee), 2 Luke Jericho (Gee) and take your pick for the one. Mooney clearly best on ground. Goodwin good for us but not worthy winner of that medal. If Jericho does get a game a some point this season he'd want to play well. Disgracful tonight. Geelong were good tonight and deserved to win. well i must say it was a very good effort by geelong to get up.

I just wish i had of got on at the $7.50 to win the NAB Cup before a ball was bounced after I got the mail that the club was out to win it.

the budgies should have been further in front at the first break and had other chances throughout the game to kill them off. THe good sign for cats fans is that the young squad kept on digging deep. Thought the cats were in trouble when Ling went off as he is the 'link' and 'go to' man.

Well after a showing like this they would want to finish 1-2 in the major round and would want to be playing in a G/F. Best home and away draw for years with only 5 interstate trips.

The crowd was disappointing considering that in the home and away season it would have been a full house. thought the ticket prices were a little expensive.

I didnt see alot of the game, but I did hear that Jerhico muffed a few chances to goal, apparently one was when he was running in to an open goal and well shanked it.

lets all noit getcarried awaywith a four week pre-season comp, it is a GF by name only, nice to win but four points round 1 is worth more.

Overal I think the Crows would be happy with the past 4 weeks and what is has given the club in terms of rnd 1 preperation.

The senior group, Mcleod, Goodwin, Edwards and co all look like they will maintain there high level of consistency from previous seasons.

Backbone group of Mattner, Perrie, McGregor, Shirley, Thompson, Hentchel, Biglands, Rielley are ready to take there game to another level

Bode and knights have shown enough that they will add more running power and midfield options to the side, while Vince could be the suprise packet, he may be the small forward there searching for, for me the Jury is still out on Van Berlo, not sure if he is quite ready yet.

Maric, has had his moments but needs more senior football and plenty of game time in the SANFL to develop more, Jericho needs to find consistency, one week very good, the next very panicy, I would of also liked to see DSouglas get more game time, my feeling is that he will have the ability to step up from game 1.

Concerns for round 1 would be, would of liked Bassett, Bock, Doughty to have more footy (game time) and obviously the fitness of Roo.

Selection suprises for rnd 1. I think it will be as per usual with Bode, Knights definite inclusions, Massie has not done much wrong, while Vince just might be the selection suprise.......

I watched the game and i was impressed with Geelongs last quarter. Cameron Mooney got totally ripped off for the Micheal Tuck medal. Jericho was woeful. He did excellent against Melbourne and i feel he did cost the crows the game against geelong missing those goals. But take nothing away from the never say die and fighting spirt of Geelong. I know it was a pre-season cup but the lets see how the cats preform come September. Cameron Ling jarred his knee so he will be out for a couple of games but to win without him in the second half was brillent. Agreed Wedgie the crowd was poor you would have thought it was the power playing Geelong and I do agree with you the pre-season cup should be held in Melbourne after the showing in Adelaide.

Good win by the Catters,one of the real flag contenders this season.

Similar problems again for the Cows,defense is the best going around,the midfield arguably rated the same,however,once the ball gets to half forward the opposition have a chance to get involved.Welsh is a key for them,for mine,he is the only "natural" forward in there,a real finisher.the rest of them,have some way to go before the side can be considered a genuine threat,the pressure gets put on them and they tend to buckle a little.They work so hard on putting pressure on the opposition,but stumble when it is dealt back up to them.

I think that you are taking alot away from Geelong's win mp - In the last quater they did not look like they were going to lose even when they were behind - they were very hungry for it.

In a real game I think you might also find that Jericho would of been dragged and maybe even the birdman. As a crows fan I am pretty happy with what we have to look forward to with the likes of knights - vince - maric and van berlo all getting excellent game time and looking up to it. Not to mention Matty Bode being on the park and looking dangerous around goal.

Looking forward to the real 2006 season.

Well a flag at last even if it is a pretend one. What is not pretend however is the desire of the Cats and the depth of the squad. Blue Boy quite rightly paid respects to the up and comers on the Crows' list as this is the time of year for these players..again, I think that the Cats have those players covered in terms of the future..


Mark Blake: Maligned by some Cats fans in his career so far but the big blokes take longer and I thought he had an excellent NAB cup and will get better. The Cats made the right choice to stand by Blake and offload the hard working but limited Paul Chambers to the Swans.

Brent Primsall: For all Melbourne fans salivating over Brent Maloney, keep an eye on this kid. Primsall is tougher than Beamer and when both careers are consigned to the history books Primsall will be the one with the better reviews in end. I exect Primsall to be in the team for Round 1.

Matthew Spencer: Yet to play a game for the Cats but will go close to round one as well. A fair sized lump of a kid who will play a lot of league football for the club. An ordinary first effort against the Blues but has come on lately. Maybe half a dozen in the league side this year.

Tom Lonergan: Been on the list for a few years now and looks ready to make his move. Frustratingly, kicks about as well as Playfair or Kingsley. One of these days we will get a forward who can bloody kick straight.

Matthew Egan: Ready made replacement for Tom Harley. Not that long ago, the loss of Harley destabilised our back six and our defence fell away. Now with Egan in the team the tomcat is no walk up start. A future All Australian if the wankers can ever get over lazy scrubbers like Joel Bowden.

Players who have not played at all include Ottens, Johnson, King, Riccardi and Wojinski. Kingsley hasn't played since tweaking his hammy against the Roos. It's all looking good for the Catters with Ling and Kelly apparently not hurt as badly as first thought. The question regarding Geelong over summer was how was the team going to react mentally to the loss against Sydeny.

That question has been answered in the last few weeks.

I was absolutely disgusted to hear the comments from so called crows supporters both after the game on 5AA and on Rowe's Roast on the Sunday Morning... don't these wankers realise there's got to be a winner AND a loser.... what ever happened to sticking with your team through thick and thin ( just ask any cdfc supporter prior to 2000)... i really am sick of these people that bag their own - jmho but I reckon the crows fans ( I fail to hear too much from the REAL supporters) have got to learn alot more about following/supporting a team ) after all I am sure Jerricho did not stuff up on purpose.. give your own a break (and no, I am not a power supporter, infact support no AFL team only the mighty, mighty bulldogs) and really support - nearly attended every game (and often alone) from 1984 till now...
