Adelaide Crows 1998 premiership Reunion

With the Reunion this week at AAMI with the game against the Roos and all the ex players and Blighty going around the ground before the game saturday. i Thought i would ask what every ones memories?? especially Dutchy

i was only 13 i got given a ticket and went with My uncle, aunty and SMAC's brother. the thing that i remember is in the first half. A north supporter kept saying (lucky crows lucky crows) when the roos kept missing. my uncle said dont worry bout it cause it will come back to bite him on the bum. and it did. i also got a hat signed at the after party that night as well as 3 herald sun posters which i still have. and you cant forget the PETER CAVEN KICKED THE ROO BOYS ASS song
I love vegatarian food. It goes great with steak.

Memories are pretty vague these days but here goes:

- Ben Hart keeping the Crows in it in the first half
- Carey and Jarman's freak 1st quarter goals
- Pickett v Jarman clash (one of the best Ive seen)
- Being the most pessimistic of supporters yet strangely turning to my mate at halftime saying "We'll win this"
- Smart's contentious mark on or behind the goalline.
- Being a Legs fan, I was wrapped with James Thiessen's performance.
- Oh yeah, also drew John Blakey in the draw for 1st goalkicker and thinking "Oh well" lol and of all the times he bobbed up
- Matty Robran's attempted specky with his hand fair and square in the middle of Micky Martyn's bald dome.
- The method of celebration (and accomplice) that night amid the Euphoria throughout the state was probably more of a highlight than the match itself

After being the only Adelaide Supporter at the Airmans Club in Darwin in 1997, I ensured I had back up with me in 1998. So I got married and had my wife and a few friends join me at the Airmans Club in Darwin.

Massive day, followed by a massive night. Memories are vague, but I do remember plenty of Jarman magic.

And now I am back here in SA amongst the Adelaide throng as we work towards another finals campaign.

My boss at the time barracked for two team, Port Adelaide and anyone that played the Crows and spent the week telling me that the Crows had no chance at all. The Crows won and he rang me to congratulate me which I thought showed some real character on his behalf!

I really did not think that the Crows were a chance of winning it though too!

A great day, remember it well!

I thought we had no chance in 1997 and was even more pessimistic in 1998 because NM were the gun team of that era. I'm still not sure to this day how we won. For NM supporters, it must stick in the guts like 1986 does for me as a North Adel supporter. I don't think we had ever beaten NM in Melbourne before that day.

I felt we were hanging on by our fingernails for the entire first half but once the run on started it was 1997 all over again. Blighty goes down in history as back-to-back premiership coach and Neil Craig also got credit as our fitness coach both 2 seasons after both the Saints and Roos couldn't keep up after half time.

30 scoring shots each - 15.15 to 8.22 - but a 35 point easy margin, terrible kicking by NM.

IIRC Jason McCartney missed out on his chance at premiership medallion because he missed the following year's win.
In between signatures .....

That has always been the strength of Neil Craig even as a player at Norwood. I have a friend who is an ex Norwood player who was there when Craig was playing. He tells me that Craig used to run to training, train hard then run home again. He was regarded as a fitness fanatic, yet the rest is clearly history! :D
