Don't reckon anyone could be as good as Carey in half the time ... Could be a different story by the end of JB's career, but definitely the King is still King for now.

No, but he'd be 2-5th behind him.

Obviously the game has changed, not as much kicking down the line to the CHF one out with his opponent. Carey was the best at that one on one battle. I think Brown will be up there by the end of his career but it will be hard to top Carey. Can't remember Carey being triple teamed all that much, not as much as Brown has against Sydney or Bulldogs for example. Brown is by far my favourite player of the past 3 - 5 years and will be for some time.

Carey wasn't triple teamed because there was awesome full-backs like Silvagni, who could limit his influence on his own...

I'd be surprised if Carey wasn't triple or quadruple teamed ..... maybe I'm wrong but he was such a dominant force and its only 10 years ago I'm not sure triple-teaming is such a new concept

Maybe "Pagan's paddock" allowed the King (through game plan structure) to appear one-one-on a lot

Brown is an outstanding player but Carey could do everything Brown can + he was quicker and more agile off the ground IMO.

So I agree with Punk - Brown makes the top 2-5 behind the king
In between signatures .....

Definitely had multiple opponents - I remember Al Clarkson telling me he and a few others made a career out of Carey being so good and taking their opponents away from them. Easy crumbs he reckoned.

Jon Brown has got a long way to go yet.....

If he can keep up this form for most of his career, he will be up there at the end of his career.....

Who knows though, Jon Brown could break his leg on the weekend and miss 1 and a half seasons or he could do a Nathan Ablett and retire.....

Of course i don't want this to happen to him and i rate him very highly but anything can happen in the game of footy.

johnathan brown very close second. brown does seem to catch the umpires eye a bit more than carey(brownlow votes). if he could put a brownlow with his three premierships maybe at the end of his career he could be rated better.

You can tip whatever you like, I thought he was actually being quite self deprecating by saying that he wouldn't have played as much AFL footy as he did if it weren't for the value he could add around Carey's feet.

Browny is a gun. I would like to see him have a chance to go one on one against his opponent more, but triple teaming is what the opposition has to do to shut him down. He was amazing a couple of years ago when Lethal threw him on the ball due to the Lions huge injury list. Imagine lining up against that man!

The 1 hour highlights from previous years is going to be a regular thing on ch 7 before live games i think, so lets hope they play some more decent games such as 89 GF etc.

As for Brown, as good as he is, he'd need to do quite a bit more to be up there with Carey.

Wayne Carey is the best player i have seen. I'll qualify this by saying i have been watching football since 1987 so can't comment on players from before then. Brown, as good as he is, has a long way to go to get to that level. Carey was one of the very special athletes that don't come around too often. He was the complete player and a brilliant leader. He was able to lift the players around him and also just do the incredible things that others just couldn't. Had Brown played in the same era as Carey all the comparisons would've been made and Brown would have paled in those comparisons much the same way a player as good as Chris Grant did.
