I know, not happy, especially with Massie being taken. Thankfully they don't rate Campbell!

Kennedy in for Hunter is a real possiblity on game day as well.

Looks like Hunter is playing, Scott Selwood is the travelling emergency and JK has stayed in Perth to play in the WAFL.

What have you made of Tippett's progress mate?

And I know how much you rate Mackay so seeing him named on the wing must bring a smile to your face.

Yeah i would like to see how he goes as well but obviously WCE will prefer Hunter to play.

His form has been a little indifferent, still finds a lot of the footy but probably does not use it well enough at the moment and made some very poor errors through the middle of the ground.

I think it is a bit of a wake up call, his work ethic is undeniable but the club may be saying look we have Masten, Ebert McNamara, Selwood and co pushing for a midfield spot and you need to sharpen your skills and improve your decision making.

He will be back before to long but it is very exciting to have Ebert and Masten make their debuts this week.

Yeah i should qualify my statement. Hes a quality SANFL player, i just dont think he has what it takes to step up to the next level.

I think he might be a role player at best at that level perhaps due to leg speed, but hard to say definitively until we get to see some minutes from him at that level.

Tippett - Not surprised to see him step up - the AFL body is there, the smarts are there, the strength is there!! He looks a genuine, tough, strong get-out-of-my-way forward which is something the Crows haven't ever had (I don't count Carey because he was a shadow of his former self). I was right there in that NAB GF and one thing I am adamant about is that should he be stationed up forward permanently, his sheer size will ALWAYS draw the opposition's A grade defender. Outstanding prospect.

Mackay - Was blown away when I saw him debut for South, immediately jumped ahead of pretty much everyone else on our list in terms of how I rated our players. No, it wasn't me passing judgment too quicky, it was the -nature- of the performance. Notice this lad has immediately looked comfortable at AFL level. One or two kicks that went slightly over players' heads and that was all there was in terms of anything negative and even then, those kicks put 90% of Doughty's disposal to shame ( 8) ). Most players come in and out of a side, looking good at times and bad at others but every so often a player comes along who just waltzes in and looks like they've been playing at the highest level for years - that is the immediate mark of a genuine superstar in the making. Make no mistake Crows supporters - watch this kid closely because you are seeing a very special player rise through the ranks.

Also NFC, I have been watching Kite play - early days but he moves very well and seems to be getting more willing to hunt the footy every time I see him. A bit of upside to this kid methinks.

Oh and finally, I think the AFC picked Jericho and Massie because they give us more height in our running stocks. Campbell would have been ideal in place of Jericho if it were any side but West Coast, we just need the extra height in our runners so badly when we play them (they kill us every time in this area). Maric has been training like crap apparently, plus I suspect the club has basically conceded that even if they did play Ivan, they would still get smashed in the ruck because of the experience and physicality gaps. Probably gain more from having the extra running option than the extra ruck, especially if ends up raining which would reduce Tippett's effectiveness if he was permanently stationed up forward. You are probably going to ask why I mentioned the height in our running utilities if I also say Tippett's height up forward will be somewhat nullified - it's trying to cover as many bases as possible. In that if it's dry, we get the height AND the running capacity from the two inclusions. If it's wet, we've still got the running capacity. Play Maric instead and it becomes all height, zero running capacity which could influence the outcome a lot more. A balancing act indeed. :/

No Shirley , what a blow that must be for Neil Craig and selection committee . The Adelaide brains trust must of been working over time to cover his lose .

Doughty must still have those photo's of Craigy ...

Yep..
As a Norwood supporter, I think they are very useful as SANFL players, and should be playing for Norwood.
As Crows supporter, I think Massie is marginal/useful and Jericho just doesn't have what it takes, so I am unanimous that they should play for Norwood! 8)

You know im really not sure what Jericho has shown to still be on the crows list. I still believe that Torney is a better player. But still what done is done. Jericho gets his chance to show it is what the crows coaching staff believe he has.

You know what I'm excited about? We have a number of players going into this match who have never played against West Coast before (Symes may have while with Port but hasn't while he has been at the Crows):

Douglas
Tippett
Symes
Mackay
Vince

It's a different side to the one that has traditionally struggled with matchups against the Eagles in the past. When you go into a game with unknown quantities you never know what will come out of it. You just never know. I will say this though, I vividly recall Glass being made a fool of by Westhoff last year; Tippett is a similar type except bigger, stronger and based on 20m sprint times, quicker. Not to say Glass will get destroyed again, but with that game in mind I will watch this one with interest should it eventuate. It's a big unknown in our forward line that may benefit the matchups.

Will we win? If I were a betting man I'd pick the Eagles; the Crows shouldn't win if you compare the squads. But in those five players I named we have unknown quantities - we don't know what they will add to or subtract from the usual matchup headaches WC give us, and that's an exciting thing imo.

Wouldn't be surprised if Adelaide got up.
