I don't see what the issue is if he had a med cert. If a Doctor deems him unfit for work then its unfair dismissal in my book. Feel free to investigate the Doctor though.

My first thought was that he's a slackass, but then I'm inclined to agree with Wedgie, if he has a certificate for "Medical Reason" then I would have thought he was clear to not attend work.

Lets be honest, no-one sacks valued employees for 1 day's indiscretion my tip is he wasn't the star performer there My other tip is this is his 'version' of events.

If you were an employer and your trainee employee doesn't rock up because he called in sick and then went to the footy you'd be

Some of the stories I have heard about ex-employees reasons for launching unfair dismissal claims would fill a comedy night.
