Paul Chapman assaulted......

Postby evans01 » Sun Mar 09, 2008 4:47 pm

Geelong grand final hero Paul Chapman was forced to defend himself after being assaulted at a local hotel on Saturday night.

According to a club statement, the incident occurred at around 8pm and the club was aware of the details by 9pm.

“We have spoken to Paul, the owner of the hotel and other patrons that were present and they have been consistent in terms of what happened,” Geelong’s general manager of football operations Neil Balme said.

“In the circumstances we feel Paul was within his rights to defend himself.

“It is always difficult when footballers are targeted, but given what happened most reasonable people would have acted in the same manner that Paul did.”

if someone did that to me i'd just keep putting the coins in my pocket until the 'thrower' ran out of money & then defended myself

why didn't the bar manager or staff of the pub, intervene earlier by talking to the thrower & if that didn't work throw him/her out ?
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Most of the AFL sides now have a boxing program included into the training schedules these days, some of these guys can get to the stage of competing at an amature/professional level in the boxing circuit ie. Barry Hall, Wayne Carey. Anyone who provokes these guys deserve what they get......

I have met Chappy a couple of times now and he must have been provoked, as he is one of the most gentle, down to earth blokes you could ever meet.

Players are always a target, but even more so in Geelong where it's like a big country town, everyone knows everyone.
