Scott Burns
Just about to be announced. Interesting decision, probably the right one IMO.

Interesting how the media (eg double page in Inside Footy) and Collingwood supporters make the Collingwood captaincy to be something akin to the Australian cricket captaincy. The average non Collingwood supporter couldn't really give 2 hoots about who captains this over hyped football club.

Someone obviously told Collingwood that the season is only 2 weeks away...that same person better tell Chocco as I dont think he realises
He would rather spend his time working out a 12 team finals series...WADH!!!!

why did you then
1) read this thread
2) post a comment in it?
No-one forced either option on you...
I find Scott Burns a curious choice- he's definately worthy of being Captain, but at age 32 (?), surely they should be looking for someone in their early-mid twenties?
A Dane Swan/Nick Maxwell/Heath Shaw type?

I reckon he's closer to 34 punky, making the decision even more curious. However probably would have been captain some time ago if it weren't for that other bloke whose name escapes me...
I recall the day he tore us apart in school footy, was already playing reserves at Norwood at the time I reckon.

I would think Burns was appointed for 2 reasons - first one as a reward for great service to the club, and the other would be that the other guys you mentioned Punk are not quite ready, but probably will be next year if, as expected, Burns retires. After having an exceptional leader like Buckley for so long, Collingwood have to be sure the right bloke is appointed.
Burns is a fantastic player too - nothing flashy, just tough and no-nonsense.

I'd agree there Punk. Burns is a good choice as it gives another SA lad a chance to lead one of the bigger clubs on the stage, but IMO I would've opted for a younger bloke like Ben Johnson who I rate highly....

Birdwood High had some pretty handy players about that time.
Troy 'Plugger' Perrett was their best

I personally dont have a huge level of interest it, I'm just commenting on the fact that the matter is treated by the average Collingwood supporter and the media in general as more important than it actually is. Fair enough to discuss it and have a thread on here, but from what i've seen in other media outlets the level of exposure is disproportionate to its level of overall significance.

In the middle of both.
He is 33 and wont be 34 until the end of the year.
I honestly thought Nick Maxwell or Josh Fraser would be appointed but i can see why they have chosen Scott.

Interim captain for sure, but a fair reward for his efforts both on and off field for a long time ... Hope he can shake the niggly injuries this year and have a great season, I have no doubt he'll make a fine leader (in many respects he already has been).
Punky, Maxwell, Fraser the frontrunner for the next position? I guess the Pies didn't have enough of their younger group with enough multiple seasons of required performance (at this point in time) behind them.

I reckon Maxwell, Fraser and Scott Pendlebury will be the next in line.
On other news Beau Waters has extended his contract with the Eagles until 2011.

I know its not always credible (but it nonethless shows the views of the average footy supporter), but Big Footy for a start.

Birdwod had a fair side for school footy
apart from Scott, Brett James, Roger James, Jason and Steven Sizler, Sudjui Cook, Damien and Jason King, and about 4 others that went onto play 2nd at Centrals and Norwood.

Good call in my opinion. Fraser for me struggles around as the lead ruckman, hes not quite a top line ruckman but is handy none the less.
Maxwell is a good player, plays tough and is versatile and is probably the next in line for me depending on how long Burns sticks around for.
Pendlebury is going to be one of the best players in the next 10 years injuries and other things not getting in his way. Skillful under pressure, a good size so hes flexible and seems to have a good head on his shoulders.
I feel for Tarkyn Lockyer, hes a great little player, and wouldve thought he would have been the man to take the reins but alas i think he may have missed the boat with the captaincy, hope im wrong.

But there'd be three threads on loads of footy topics there, not just the Pies captaincy.....

Yeah, but the Collingwood supporters are putting it on the main board there, as though its of interest to the footy community at large. One thread maybe fair enough, but 3 is going overboard, its not really as significant as some Collingwood supporters make it out to be.
