In all opinions we have about him we all have to admit he does promote the game and promote it well.If people take offence to his arrogant comments they need to lighten up.I reckon he's great and is the ONLY reason why I watch the footy show week in, week out (Or to watch Jonathon Brown knock Ricky Pontings head off)

The Sam Newman we see on television is far different than the one I had the pleasure of meeting a few times in the late 90's at Norwood business lunches, very funny and gracious with anyone who approached him, hope he gets well soon!

One would expect an old Geelong Grammar boy to have good manners. He's brighter than he pretends to be too.

Sam Newman is a character the actor John Newman portrays. Regardless it is very poor form to make light of an illness anyone has.

Externally he is being very brave.
Internally Sammy is most probably going thru a living hell.
Mentally the waiting for the results will be one of the hardest things he will ever experience.

It is terrible news about Sam.

The freaky thing is that recently I finished reading a book called 'Players', by Tony Wilson. It is a pretty funny read, based on the Footy Show. In it, Sams character gets in a bit of trouble and his publicity wanes, so the powers that be concoct a story that he has testicular cancer. His subsequent treatment is followed closely by the media and the public fall in love with him all over again. Have a read if you get a sec. Not a bad book at all.

Not saying this has happened in this instance, just scary that life has imitated art to a certain extent.

All the best big guy

My sister spent a bit of time with Sam whilst she was working with channel 9 in the 80's and 90's and said he was a lovely bloke, and quite a gentleman, so I agree with the comments regarding his public persona.

Anyway, all of that's pretty irrelevant, I wish the best to anyone attempting to overcome a serious illness.
