Carltons New Captain

Is the one and only Chris Judd
Is this the right decision by the club? Yes he is a superstar, one of the best but he is at a new club, is underdone and has not joined full training as of yet? Is his professionalism that much better than anyone else at Carlton? (Not a cheap shot, serious question)
Strange decision for someone who wanted less media attention.

If the club sees him as the natural long term captain then, if they don't do it now, they risk upsetting the 'stand-in' next year or the year after when Judd inevitably gets the job.
Judd is a great player and a great leader IMO
So why wait?

yep seems a weird decision to me, wonder if there was pressure for him to do it?
Interesting the Capt and V Capt of the Blues are both players they got for being shit!!!!

Good choice IMO. He is doing everything on the track according to training reports I have been reading.
As for his professionalism, Stevo would be the closest pick, but Judd has a Brownlow & a Premiership medallion.
Carlton lacked a lot of leadership the past few years, so why not give it to a bloke who is a born leader both on
the track and on the field.
IMO, nothing in it, and well done Juddy. I'm sure people will look into it and good luck to 'em.
Interesting the Capt and V Capt of the Blues are both players they got for being s***t!!!!
At least we got something

he was the skipper at West Coast, why not the Blues?
The Blues went against all logic when they appointed Kernahan as Captain, look where that got them...

Not surprised at all Judd got the captaincy, i think Stevens was expecting it. But bad luck!
Judd very professional, leads by example on & off the field. Oh & he's got the best Mrs.

3AW's interview with Juddy about the Captaincy....
I enjoyed listening to that. I like the Sports Today program.
Just to get things clear this thread was not started as a cheap shot towards Carlton or Judd, was just throwing a couple of questions up that will be inevitably raised.

Judd is a class act, on and off the field.
I think he was always going to be Carlton's skipper, from the moment he agreed to play for them.
Pup, did he actually state that he wanted less media attention when he quit West Coast ?

Good call. I would happily get booted out a club for being caught in the dunny with his missus.

Not taken as such. As I said Carlton has a lack of leadership and Judd fills that void....

He has always said he wanted less media attention on his PRIVATE life which IMO is fair enough. He has no issue with talking to
the media re Carlton, Football, the AFL etc. There are certain aspects of the media that bring up Twiggy (

), which has nothing
to do with Football so leave that out...

Nah that's North Melbourne...

Yes he did.
But in fairness he may have meant out of the Perth "Fishbowl"

OK. Judd is always going to get plenty of media attention wherever he goes though. I would have thought the best player in the competition quitting his club generates lots of media interest.
Its funny, Judd might be trying to get away from the media, but im sure his missus likes the idea of being in the papers/mags more.
While we are on the subject of Twiggy, overated IMO. Still good, dont get me wrong, but overated.

Great interview with Judd...actually showed a sense of humour. Loved the comment about soaping stevo's back.
In respect to making him captain, I think it was the right choice given the overall experience of the Carlton team. No one other than stevens could legitimately be considered, and given that stevens himself is coming back from serious injury probably cast enough doubt over his short term ability to do the job.
Brownlow medallist and premiership captain joining a young poorly performed side..makes perfect sense.
I think the unsaid in all this, is it hopefully puts to rest all the inuendo about Judds recovery from surgery. The club and players were getting sick of answering the same (relevant) question every media conference. With being named captain and talking of playing before the start of the home and away season, the club can move forward with this decision..
Go you blues.

It was always going to be either Judd or Stevens but Judd got it and i think he deserves it. Judd is very professional and a great leader. Carlton made the right choice.

I still have doubts Judd will play more than 10 games this year. He is starting to look a bit like Tredrea and Ricciutto did last year.

Except Judd is 6 years younger...age has a fair bit to do with it IMO...

Age, total amount of strain/workload, and nature/chronicity of injury. Maybe a half or full season off would help some recover. Only time will tell with Judd, but it looks worrying.

Best player in that squad by the distance of Adelaide to Melbourne, may as well have it, as he will win their B&F, be close to their leading goalkicker and wont go out causing tantrums and spitting the dummy, the one and only choice IMHO
