CROWHIBITION

Postby Snaggletooth Tiger » Wed Feb 13, 2008 6:58 pm

Has Neil Craig gone too far?
I know that whole SANFL 'wowser' approach has been prevalent down West Lakes for decades...
But that was just for the spectators!
But banning players from knocking a few back after a game or whenever?
After all Crows captain Simon Goodwin IS a pub owner!
Unbe(f'n)lievable!

I had two beers last night after some weights and running. I am a fair bit more sore than I usually would be. When you're on the edge of overtraining as these blokes are, a little alcohol goes a long way to impeding recovery and therefore performance.

Just depends how much you are willing to sacrifice and how much clubs should expect players to sacrifice.

If your boss was paying you $150 or $200k i'm sure you would re-think that...

These guys are "professional" athletes, that has costs associated with it, one being no grog during the season / training.... If they want to drink - then they should go back and play amatures...
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined

spot on, if i had the oppurtunity to play at an AFL standard and be payed that sort of money, I am more than happy to stay off the grog.

My job requires me to be professional between the hours of 8am till about 7pm nearly every day of the week and although my salary is not 150k to 200k per year yet it is still significant enough for me to stand by my thoughts and not change my mind on what I do in my own time !!!

Here is a challenge for ya - say your recruited tomorrow and put on an AFL list as early as 9am. You must now stop drinking for the rest of the season. Please let me know how you went after round 22.

It is entirely up to you, but the medical evidence is that anything over 4 standard drinks in 24 hours does knock off a few thousand brain cells every time.
This is purely for information.

Not exactly sure, but the view is you can spare a million or so. But a real binge may knock off say 10 thousand or so. So, say 4 years of regular weekend binges, could get you into real trouble - Korsakoff's Psychosis, Wernicke's Encephalopathy, without counting liver impairment, Portal hypertension, varices [varicose veins] inthe stomach and anal canal.... it goes on.

surely every now and then would be alright? obviously drinking 10 beers a day would do damage, but 10 beers every so often would be okay. It also depends on who it is and how much they can take.

I hate to agree with Psyber, but I definately struggle more with simple maths and puzzles than I did when I started Uni. I did have a lot of fun though. I just wonder how much of your life you can be expected to sign away with an AFL contract.

Everbody seems to be trying that little bit extra to get a step ahead. No booze, staying at the club when injured to do ice every hour of the night. Will all of these become compulsory as the will to win gets greater. I'm worried about the snowball effect and how intrusive these thigs will be to players lives.
