That's something I cannot work out. The SANFL members are included in BOTH the Port/Crows membership tallys.
WTF has SANFL membership got to do with the AFL ? If they wish to include these figures at least get the ticket holders to specify the team on which they mainly support. Ports numbers wouldn't look that good then.

This is how the AFL club membership works.

So far Carlton have processed over 20,000 but they have huge backlogs...Supposedly on track to crack the 40,000 barrier...
They haven't posted the official count as of yet due to the backlogs...

agree....I used to have a full SANFL membership as I liked the option to go watch a game of AFL whenever I liked...but I was included in both their membership figures! (as well as the Kangaroos)

MCG members arent included in Melbournes figures, so cant see the sense in this...thats why Port have 35,000 members every year but cant draw a crowd over 30k consistently

Dutchy, the key difference is that MCG members don't join just for footy - fair to say that AAMI Stadium members join only for footy.

No doubt smac, but look at the AFL Club membership, you nominate your club, which is officially included in that club's figures. The other membership is the Competition, in which you get to go 40 games, but don't nominate a club.

The MCC would be similar to the Adelaide Oval, so can see why not included in the figures, although Melbourne might have a different opinion.

Wouldn't Essendon like to have the membership figures boosted like Port do ? I know Carlton would love it....

Boosting membership numbers is a dumb game, IMO.

Should only count those who fill out a club membership form and pay for it - that'll tell us the real story.

Exactly and hence the beef with Port getting a boost from the SANFL memberships.

Its quite simple really, the AFL has always described season ticket holders as members.
If you're a footy pk member you hold a season ticket for the Crows and Port hence why you're deemed a member.
Obviously different in the SANFL.

Exactly...as an SANFL member I am counted in their figures but get NOTHING from the club that a normal member would get, newletters, emails, merchandise etc etc...to get that you need to pay extra for a Bronze, Silver or Gold membership....they are having their cake and eating it

I was a SANFL member prior to the AFL coming in, all Ive done is kept the membership so I have the option of going to see an AFL game when I like...

Question - Does the AFC get any of the money I pay the SANFL for my ticket?

Smac - What about the Telstra Dome Medalion Club members, if its a fair playing field then all occupants of the TD as their home ground should include these in their figures...

My understanding is that from the $415- you pay for a Cat 1 membership (Ultimate) $120 goes to Port, $120 goes to the Crows and $175 to the SANFL
I also understand that of the 16,000 cat 1 members approx 10,000 have nominated the Crows as their side and 6,000 have nominated Port. Therefore Crows 50k membership base is closer to 44k and Port's 35k is actually 25k ?

Brisbane Lions - 18,436 as of Friday 18th January.

Only 3,000 odd below our 2007 total membership.

Looks like the Cats are doing alright, talking about capping their membership like Adelaide and West Coast as they've run out of seats at Kardinia Park to put people.
You'd think they came off a good season or something!

Geelong currently 20,121

They're budgeting for 34,000 after having 30,169 last year.

Also hopes KP will hold 35k by 2015.

A season ticket to Port doesn't make you a Port member. Two seperate things.

Why do they count them in the figures then?
