Can anyone please tell me what the current go is in regards to payments being made to local footy clubs where one of their players have been drafted by an AFL club. I think there used to be a payment made when they played their first game and then more when they played 50, 100 etc.
Is there anything still happening in this regard ?

This system is still in place, however I don't recall the $$ attached.

Payments are made when drafted, on debut, game 10 and game 50 (I think).

this may be a couple years old but from what I remember reading the payment was;

$16,000 when a player is drafted
$16,000 upon a player’s first game for the AFL club
$12,500 for the player’s tenth game
$12,550 for the player’s second year

now what club gets the money eg SANFL or the grassroot local club I don't know, somebody else maybe able to answer that.

The club they are drafted from gets the $$ - whether that be SANFL or local depends on the player. Most often nowadays it is a SANFL club they are drafted from (not too many obscure pickups lately).

The SANFL clubs could do worse than passing on some of that cash to the club that provided them with the player in the first instance, IMO.

Some money definately gets filtered to the local clubs... Flaggies definitely got some coin when Adam Cooney was drafted, and again when he played a certain number of games.

That may be a choice of West Adelaides then - good on them. Have been trying to convince Centrals to do the same for years.

I was under the impression that a % went to the original club as well as the SANFL club. Unsure what that % is though.

Edit, found this:

Its details of what % goes back to local clubs but only has details of 2005 and prior in regard to the exact amounts.
Its in regard to Victorian clubs but I'd assume the same rules apply here:

From North Adelaide Information booklet for clubs and schools in the North Adealde Country Promotional Zone (no info on what year sorry --- Wedgie mate can you get latest??) -- http://www.nafc.com.au/lib/pdf/mf77.pdf

2. Upon being drafted by an AFL Club (Regulation 14.7.6), the Club, League and Zone shall receive the following.

1) On being drafted the SANFL Club receives $25,000 of which $5,000 goes back to the Affiliated League/Association. This is normally broken up in the following manner – a minimum of 40% to the Club, 30% to the League, eg NAFA or SGL, and 30% to the Zone, eg Central or Northern.

2) On playing his tenth AFL game the SANFL Club receives $15,000 of which $3,000 goes back to the Affiliated League/Association and is broken up as above.

3) On his second year on an AFL List, and after playing 10 AFL games, the SANFL Club receives $10,000 of which $2,000 goes back to the Affiliated League/Association and is broken up as above.

The amount forthcoming from the AFL varies from year to year and is at the discretion of the AFL/SANFL.

My read is in total SANFL Club gets $40K while Affiliated League/Association gets $10K.

Original Club (say Flagstaff) gets 40% of $10K = $4,000.00?

Better than nothing but not a real lot spread over a minimun of two years - could be longer to get to 10 games.
