Simon Goodwin has been appointed Adelaide Crows captain for the 2008 AFL season.
The 31-year-old's selection follows the retirement of Mark Ricciuto, who hung up the boots after the Crows' exit in the first week of this year's finals series.
Goodwin, a three-time club champion and two-time premiership player, was the unanimous choice of both the playing and coaching groups, with the decision ratified by the Crows board this morning.
He said he was humbled to be the new Crows captain.
"I'm very passionate about the footy club," he said.
"I've been here a long time now and I've seen the club grow from very early infancy right through to now, so I'm very proud to be in this role and very honoured."
Goodwin will head a leadership group of six, which also includes Nathan Bassett, Brett Burton, Tyson Edwards, Ben Rutten and Nathan van Berlo.
