New Book on the 2007 Season

For those who want to remember the 2007 season, or those who like a good or different read, The Footy Almanac will be launched this Friday and goes on sale from the weekend.

The book is overseen by John Harms and Paul Daffey, with a forward from both Paul Kelly (the singer) and Martin Flanagan.

If you don't know Harms -- he's a mad Cat supporter, regular on ABC radio, occasional panellist on ABC Insiders on a Sunday, mug punter, author of several books.
If you don't know Daffey -- he's a Hawk man, leading authority on metro and regional footy, contributor to the Age and author of several books, including a truly outstanding one several years ago collating a year in country and park footy.

The premise of the Almanac is that it has a match report of every single game of the year, plus finals, but written from the point of the view of the one-eyed fan. To produce and cover the year, they use more than 30 different writers to cover the season (not traditional footy writers), with different people doing particular matches. Sometimes the fan sees his team win, and sometimes he's there when they lose.

Just a very different view of how 07 played out, if you like some of your sports books to be a bit different.

Should have said for FC's benefit. Selling for 30 dollars if you're present buying, but presuming Borders is nearly always cheaper than the cover price.

As a Geelong man, really enjoyed the fact it was a committed Richmond supporter who wrote the review of the Round 6 massacre at the 'Dome.

Adam McNichol (most probably don't know him, but he has very very very strong views on Richmond's coaching) opened his report of the night
"As a Richmond supporter born in the late 70s, I had already seen some awful things. I had seen almost as many hundred-point thrashings as wins. I had seen Richard Lounder. And Anthony Banik. And Matthew Dundas. And Billy Nicholls."

After about a two-page tantrum on how bad his night at the footy was, he finishes his report.
"We have got only three more seasons of this nonsense (with Terry as coach) to go."

Every match report includes quarter by quarter scores, goal kickers, the writer's best players, the writer's votes, Brownlow votes, the match betting?!?!?!?, crowd figures and then the appendix lists who played for the year for your club, how many matches, how many goals etc.

Thus endeth the plug in favour of two authors I like (you probably worked that out though)

I have actually,(last weekend) watched the GF again.It was just as painful this time,but it did give me (a TV view as opposed to at the ground) an even stronger appreciation of the magnificent Geelong side we ran into.

Andy, I'm sure if you read his delightful book Loose Men Everywhere, you'd find a fairly full description of how he is a Geelong supporter.
