Unwanted kittens. Free to a good home

Gardiner, Tenace and Playfair are being put on the table by the Cats with Tim Callan looking a cert to go to the Western Bulldogs. Mark Blake has been offered 800k and a three year deal by the ruck starved Saints - this will make it hard for Geelong to keep him because if Blake's dough goes up we might lose players in the next few years as we try to keep our squad together.

I reckon the Cats may let Blake go, put a couple of years into Trent West and pick up a young ruckman in the draft if we can get our hands on St Kilda's number nine pick. Personally, I hope we don't lose Blake.

The above offers by the GFC tend to assume that Prismall is untouchable as is Blake but I don't reckon we can compete with that sort of offer as he simply isn't worth that much at this stage of his career.

The silly season has begun!

Radio reports say Richmond and St Kilda are interested in Blake, confirming REB is OTM

Don't think anybody says he wasn't but St Kilda would be stupid to give away pick 9 for Blake.

In regards to number nine it depends what type of player your club is looking for. If you recruit a ruckman you'll be waiting two years at least just to get to where Mark Blake is now. If it's a midfielder your club wants then no you wouldn't trade pick nine for Blake. What any player is worth in terms of draft picks is always determined by the club's requirements and not what any supporter might think.

I don't happen to think he's worth 800 grand over three years either but that is what the Saints are offering. It shows just how desperate they are to get their hands on a ruckman. If they pay that price I'd say good on you Blakey and bye bye because that sort of coin would be better spent keeping other players at the club once the salary cap bites. It gives Trent West a couple of years to develop but we wouldn't want King to go down that is for sure.

Think this would be the difficult part of trying to build a list as well as keeping it together, salary cap problems not withstanding. Even when you do have the talent in reserve, those players will seek greater opportunities elsewhere and so when the first team players either retire or get injured, you don't have that depth anymore - which in the current competitive AFL means that you can head for a quick fall down the ladder.

Thanks for the update REB.
One would suggest if they're offering 800k over 3 seasons then they would agree he's worth pick no 9.
