The Geelong B&F is being held at the Crown, probably a more prestigious event than the Brownlow this year!

Yeah held last night Wedgie. The Crown is a awesome place for a show. I have had the privilege of attending both the Craig Bradley and Stephen Silvagni testimonials at the Crown. Fantastic night in a fantastic venue...

Ablett turns tables on Bartel
Article from: Herald Sun
October 05, 2007 08:30am
GARY Ablett last night turned the tables on Brownlow medallist Jimmy Bartel by claiming Geelong's best-and-fairest award.
In a joyous night of celebration for the premiers, the Cats' favourite son was rewarded for his stunning season with his first "Carji" Greeves medal. His father Gary won the award in 1984.
Ablett blitzed the field in the prestigious award, polling 691 votes to win by 178 from Bartel, who finished second (513) for the second consecutive year.
Bartel only just claimed the runner-up title, with his votes in the Grand Final thrashing of Port Adelaide lifting him ahead of Cameron Ling (502).
While he was upstaged when favourite in the Brownlow Medal by his midfield teammate, Ablett has dominated every other award, including the AFLPA's Most Valuable Player and the coaches association's Player of the Year.
The 23-year-old, who had finished third in the previous two vote counts, had a club-high 667 disposals for the season and polled in every game. He was best-on-ground seven times.
Ablett joins Jocka Todd (1931), Tommy Quinn (1937), Bernie Smith (1951), Geoff Williams (1952) and Polly Farmer (1963) as Geelong best-and-fairest winners in a premiership season. There was no award in 1925.
Eight of the Cats' nine All-Australians finished in the top 10, with defenders Darren Milburn (474) and Matthew Scarlett (473) rounding out the top five.
Midfielder Joel Corey (468) was sixth, followed by Cameron Mooney (424). Steve Johnson (369) came in ninth, despite missing the opening five games of the season. All-Australian centre half-back Matthew Egan (261) finished in a tie for 11th with captain Tom Harley.
Ruckman Brad Ottens (418), in eighth, and defender Corey Enright (10th on 330) were the non All-Australians to record a top-10 finish.
The consistency of vice-captain Ling was noted last night, with the 2004 winner finishing top four in voting for the sixth straight season.
NAB Rising Star Joel Selwood was rewarded for his amazing season by being voted the club's best first-year player.
Mooney received the leading goalkicker award, while Egan, who missed the finals series because of injury, was named best clubman. The consistent Enright was presented with the coach's award and Tom Lonergan was named the club's community champion

West Coast Eagles
Best and Fairest
Darren Glass
Adam Hunter- Big Surprise
Adam Selwood
Matt Priddis
Daniel Kerr
Pretty much on the money IMO, once again it proves the umpires love Kerr. He finished ninth when he came runner up to Cousins in the brownlow in 2005 and pretty low last year when he came third. Doesnt poll very well for the club. (May have even been his first top 5.)
Full credit to Glass, is the clubs most important player along with Cox IMO and had a brilliant year. AA, B and F, and first ever brownlow votes .

Well done.
Chris Mainwaring was homoured and the club will retire the number 3 for 3 years as a sign of respect and one wing at subiaco will be named after him for all WCE home games.
Chad Fletcher and Rowan Jones recieved life memberships and Ash Hansen was given the best clubman award.

With no strong opinion on this one way or another, is it right to honour him by renaming a wing of the ground after him? Considering some of the circumstances and what is yet to be known, I'm unsure if this is the right path yet.

No matter what the circumstances i still think it is right.
Geelong named a gate and a terrace after Gary Ablett, Is that right under the circumstances?

Ablett did alot for Geelong and was a champion footballer the only thing he didn't do for Geelong was win them a flag he nearly did in 1989 but it takes more than one player to win a premiership.

I think you may have mis-understood me, i wasnt having a go at Gary Ablett, i was merely giving a comparison to Smac about the conversation we were having. I know how good he was and what he did for the club, that is my point..

I see what you are getting at pup but at this moment I don't know how mainy passed away and it is sad to hear of someone so young dying we will wait and see. Different circumstances for different clubs as they say I wasn't having a go at you.

Thanks Pup, was interested in your thoughts. I think it may be a knee-jerk reaction, the circumstances surrounding his death are yet to be confirmed.
I don't have a problem with it myself, but once everything is known a lot of people may do. Will be interesting, no doubt.

Sydney Best and Fairest was on last night
Brett Kirk
Nick Malceski
Craig Bolton
Best Clubman- Adam Goodes
Most Improved- Darren Jolly and Ted Richards
Rising Star- Tim Schmidt
Paul Kelly's Player- Craig Bolton
Great effort by Malceski who has had a super year. Their most improved are interesting with Jolly and Richards, Malceski would have been a shoe in but must be inelgible because he won it last year.
