McGregor to sign new contract at Crows

Postby Westsider » Tue Oct 02, 2007 6:47 pm

Ch10 just said that McGregor is to sign a new contract. I think that is good news for the crows fans. A step forward. Now they just have to play him.

Luckily for Kenny Shane Schubert isn't in the AFL so he should find it easier.

This sucks....as a Crows fan I cannot see what position Kenny can be effective at AFL level anymore.

Full Back - Is exposed one on one body to body on the goal line
Centre Half Back - Maybe...but cannot go with the likes of Reiwoldt and J.Brown etc
Centre Half Forward - Maybe again, but cannot kick over a jam tin which renders him useless in this position unless he racks up 15 marks on the wings ah la Matthew Richardson
Full Forward - See full back

I also don't think this is the best news for the Crows, Kenny's too slow imho ... I actually like the guy and he has a decent pair of hands, but doesn't offer enough flexibility or ability to match it with the better KP players of the comp (which most if not all at Adelaide can't), meaning the quicker they try to find someone who can, the better.

In specific too
Full Back - Is exposed one on one body to body on the goal line
Full Forward - See full back

I disagree, I believe Kenny's stregth is his ability in a standing one on one contest.

However, unfortunately in today's modern footy, their are not too many stand and deliver forwards, at FB or CHB Kenny is exposed to the modern quick leading forwards and forwards with high aerobic capability... this is the issue

The only position Kenny may be suited to at AFL level, is as a stay at home forward

Must admit Ive always like McGregor as a player but he struggles on a Shane Schubert these days let alone a Matthew Scarlett.
Adelaide should piss him off and see what they can get for him.

REB, Geelong in 2007 showed how players who look headed for the 'LOL' bin can turn into key players - Steve Johnson was almost traded at the end of 2006; Cam Mooney couldn't go 3 weeks without getting reported. FF 12 months and they kick almost 10 goals between them in a GF.

Kenny is a very accurate kick and takes a strong mark. I am not saying he is Jonathan Brown but is a very useful player to have on the list IMO.

Does kenny have off field/dicipline problems?
The 2 cats guys mentioned had issues but were always going to be walk up starts to play once
they put their heads into their game .They have talent to burn.Kenny has struggled for a regular game and been on the fringe for a year or two now .To compare the to situations is drawing a long bow I reckon. But Hondo may know stuff others dont.

Yeah, he knows how to play the Chello. If Kenny wins the Norm Smith and makes the AA next year I'll conceede that he had a point.

He's good insurance to have on the list that's all I'm saying - we were starting to look thin on experienced big guys

Good to have a guy there who can step in to a final and kick 4 goals as a key forward

I keep coming back to Cam Mooney - discipline issues or not he has gone from a good player to All Australian at age 27 or so - don't under-estimate big guys who can take a contested mark at AFL level.

He may end up playing NIL games in 2008 and then I was wrong - but right now I think its a good thing for the Crows he is staying

I also actually like Kenny to - but it is was time for him to move on and the club to move with some one who is still actually trade bait so to speak.

I would rather see the crows finish 14th next year playing all our kids finally than finish 9th with players that have been running around the park already and have not delivered a premiership !!!
It is what it is !!!

Blue Boy

Maybe the Hudson and Meesen walk-outs changed the Crows' thinking on Kenny? Or changed Kenny's thoughts on staying?

Who knows .... the proof of the pudding will be in the eating next year

I admit I am a Kenny fan I think he has more to offer than what we have seen so far - if we ended up with a 3rd or 4th round pick for him well if it were me I'd rather keep the guy.
