Well,here I go......

Postby Booney » Sun Sep 30, 2007 7:59 pm

Come Sunday at 6:30pm,with 5 hours sleep,600+ kms of driving and about 9 TED's under my heat, here 'tis.

With a bus full (10)heading over to Ballaratt (Friday arvo) en route a coach into Melbourne Saturday morning, the gerenal concensus amongst the Port faithful was a strong showing and an amazing win if it was to occur.

Saturday began well with the bacon, eggs, pale I took with me and toast setting the day off well.A hour and a bit drive and into the market we go,spent 2 hours looking at assorted sh!t before heading to the G by 1:00.

2 quick bevvies while my Mum watched my lad for 20 minutes at the market kicked in to help.

Then it began. From about the 15 minute mark of the 1st quarter to the final siren,my heart, and the heart of many of my kind was torn from us.

What can I possibly say about the display that Geelong put on,and then as a consequece the display Port Adelaide put on.Im shattered.

Not only was Geelong the best team this year, they spent the best part of 3 hours on their way to humiliating us showing the rest of the competition how good they are,and will be for some time.

Not very often do I happily conceed Mark Williams being outcoached on match day.At this point in time Neil Craig has it over him,and Mark Tompson yesterday double-dutched Mark Williams by doing what he knew Williams would think he'd do,get it?

Williams had watched Geelong play the corridor for 20 weeks, showing all other teams the best route home, then, come GF day, with Williams suspecting the Cats to play direct, knowing Thompson may do the opposite to the last 20 weeks and play wide,we opted to go down the middle for our defence. This leaving about 3-4 Cats players loose not only in the middle, but wide out as well,we did neither. We did not cover the corridor, nor the wings.

Our much vaunted (by myself at times) was deplorable.Westhoff can be excused as Scarlett is quality opposition and he is a pup aty best.Ebert,Motlop, ohh Motlop and Lade?Brogan when forward have a lot to hang their heads about.Tredrea battled on with limited supply, and the 'bit players' had no impect. Our defensive pressure in our forward 50 was crap, none what-so-ever.

All I can say is this.

Well done Geelong on a great season, and a well deserved flag.Regadless of our performance yesterday,Port Adelaide is,and will remain my team, and Port Adelaide proud I will remain.Rubbish me if you will, but I did my part,i did my best, sadly for the 22 who took to the MCG on Saturday representing my club, none of you, none of you can say the same.

REB,Wedgie,Strawbs, enjoy it,as you were, and are the best team around. The record margin may feel great right now,but the win and the realisation that something special has occured is even greater.

Late yesterday,I saw a lady of 60+ years in a Cats scarfe and jacket howling her eyes out in joy.I rapt for her and the people who have suffered long and hard like her,for me,Im dissapointed in my team, but optimistic of the futre.

P!ssed and hungry,I sign off.

(REB,Wedgie expect something in the post)

Good on you for getting on and posting your thoughts mate, well done.

And you managed to do it with some (I'm sure it was hard work) humour as well.

Top post Booney. Now you know why I've been such a miserable bastard all of these years while your mob racked up flag after flag.

I think Williams put far too much emphasis on the mind games while our mob was actually preparing for the game. He gave us ammunition galore..what was with that comment about the premiership picture? WTF?? And with the Steven King comments during the week, I just knew the big Cat was going to put on a clinic.

I think we might be about the place for some time but your boys have made giant strides this season at a time when some 'older' teams such as Adelaide and Sydney are starting to fall away a bit. I'll be tipping the next time that the Power makes the granny it will be a closed shop with no ammunition for the oppo. I couldn't imagine Fos ever doing that.

regards,

REB

Good post Booney, bad luck, for a team that did achieve a fair bit this year. Don't often see a team dominate as completely as Geelong did yesterday. Unfortunately (from experience!!) there is going to be a lot of rubbish directed at your team for years to come, and there is only one way to overcome it.

Bad luck Booney

As you said in another thread - you got to see your team play in a GF which is more than the supporters of 14 other teams can say
In between signatures .....

Top Post Booney I was over joyed with the win but it only started sinking in to me yesterday in Geelong. Alot of the Elderly cats were happy as a pig in mud because they have supported Geelong all their lives. The win will go great for Geelong and I have already watched the DVD once but it will be played many times over. Lets hope port play top footy and bounce back.

oh how to be harsh without being harsh.... :-k

Boon, now you know I love you but I find it hard to be sympathetic, I really do... the only thing I can say I feel sorry for you for, is the fact that you forked out so much money to go and watch that crap.

Hometime.. this will be edited tomorrow if I could be bothered...

Well done Boon.
Easy to say in hindsight but even in the first 10 minutes it seemed like every Port pass had to be right on the money due to the manning up of the Cats but Geelong seemed to go forward with relative ease.

I would write about my weekend' adventures, except Im still knackered and trying to recover from it, and most of the content would be deleted.

Suffice to say a good time was had, and all the usual Melbourne establishments were in fine form :D

Hey Booney what were your seats like ... Nosebleeds?

On the game, Geelong were awesome to watch ... Port needed to get some early runs in the board in the first 15 minutes because once the Cats got their tails up there was no stopping them.

The other thing I was surprised with on Ports game, was the amount of time they held the ball up trying to avoid the contest ... A contest they would inevitably kick to anyway, with greater opposition congestion ... I think they needed to at least try to play on and get the ball forward at all costs - whether it would have helped I don't know, but they gave themselves no hope with the manner in which they went about it.
