Grand Final always if you finised third you would always ask what if we made it.

Thats what i keep thinking of St Kilda in 2004 if we only got one more goal in the prelim

STK would have lost.
Guaranteed.
1997 GF proved that.

St Kilda have managed one flag in 1966, which is interesting because Geelongs previous flag was 1963 and Sydney's 1933.

Surely St Kilda must be due for some joy soon! :D

You'd think.
But the players & management make sure of failure with their annual displays of
gutlessness & stupidty.
I have come to the undeniable conclusion that I will never see a STK flag.
A pox on them.

Forget he floggin for one momeet,Saturday 5 minutes before the bounce 14 clubs wanted to be there.Better to play and lose/get thrashed than not play at all.

Always want to make it. Good experience for the players and club in the lead-up to the GF, if nothing else.

Better to be there and don't under-estimate the achievement just to make it

If you finish third you'll never know what might have been - who can name the 3rd place teams of the last 10 years without looking it up?

Have a crack and if you get belted use it as motivation for the future - my Roosters came back after 1985-86 and then again after 1989

Would you rather go down fighting in a preliminary and enhancing your reputation,(Collingwood)
or get belted in a GF, suffering embarrassment & humiliation and being torn to shreds by the football community?

Yeah it's weird, Carlton lost to the Roos in the 99 GF, yet most discussion re that years finals is about the prelim. I was at the 99 GF and although not a flogging, I just felt flat after sitting through the PF the week before...

Ive always said there's nothing worse than losing a Prelim as you know you're so close to getting to the big dance.
Its an interesting question and depends on a variety of things IMHO.
For eg if Geelong lost on Saturday I would rather them have lost the Prelim.
But even if North lose on Sunday I'm stoked they made it mainly because of the wait and where we came from in 2003.
And we get to have such a great week and be involved in so many things we haven't before.
BUT if this was North's 5 Grand Final in 10 years I'd rather not make it than get there and lose.
I hope that makes sense?

A game that will be forgotten if the Pies finish lower than 4th next year, if not before

Do you think Terry Wallace is happy with his 2 prelims .... or Neil Craig ???? I am wrapped if its now OK to finish 3rd or 4th :D

In '97 and '98 the Cows weren't tipped to make the GF, and even when they did couldn't realistically be considered favourites.

But in getting there, they had the chance to win and took it with both hands.

Moral of the story is that it's always better to get there and give yourself the chance to win a flag. Despite our flogging, I'm glad we made the GF and proud of Ports 2007 effort up to the opening bounce of the GF.

When North lost the Prelim by 7pts last year I was gutted. To see Eagles go on and win the big one by heaps did make me think "what if?". I would always rather make the grand final.

Always take a grand final.

No matter what.

Something decidedly hollow about a prelim final loss.

More so than any other finals loss...
