Brad Symes will play in the 2007 AFL Grand Final, taking the spot of injured warrior Michael Wilson.

In what must have rated the biggest selection decision in the Power’s 11 seasons, Symes was given the nod ahead of Alipate Carlile, Nathan Lonie and Greg Bentley, who earned spots on the emergency list.......

How frustrating. Good luck to him but why would Port pull Lonie out of North's side and let Symes play for Central? Not saying it would have made a difference to the result and it is certainly no fault of Central but this is just another one of many decisions made by the two AFL franchises that is absolutely perplexing.

Williams justified this by saying Symes hadn't played footy in 3 weeks leading up to last weekend and needed the run. Lonie needed the rest.

It actually makes sense, which surprises me.

I guess that's true about Symes but not really sure why Lonie needed the rest. He didn't play the week before our win over the Eagles so he's now only played 1 game in 3 weeks himself.

We shouldn't be relying on AFL listed players anyway but the frustration comes from such baffling decisions as this that don't make any logical sense. As i said even had Lonie played i doubt it would have made a difference to the result so this is not sour grapes or suggesting it cost my side the game but i just don't understand the decision making process. Fair enough Symes played cos he needed the run but Lonie hasn't had that much footy either.

Don't forget that they might also have Westhoff playing for them too, a better option than Havelberg IMHO.

Not sure I would play Symes or Westhoff if Port win. Not sure their minds would be completely on the job. Very tough decision coming up for Laird.

Agree
Another case of disregard for the SANFL teams who get shafted
AFL clubs USE the SANFL clubs to maintain some players during the year
AND then play raffertys rules when the SANFL clubs are needing them most in FINALS !

Good news is that SYMES gets a much deserved opportunity
Imagine the trifecta
