Could he be the first de-listed player to become a Premiership captain? Nah.

In hindsight you could say that his delisting by the Power was a bit of a surprise but I suppose Williams would have had his reasons.

It wasnt a huge suprise he was de-listed. He didn't really do that much while over here to press for selection. But now he has evolved into a very good player and winning a runners up medal will be good for him.

How do you come to that conclusion ? Surely his de-listing is an error on Port's behalf ? You need to take the bad with the good. He is a quality player.

Williams took over in 99 so it might have been Jack's decision but I'm sure all decisions to cut players or trade them wouldn't be just made by the coach.

At the time,IIRC we would have had Paxman,Mead and Wakelin in the team, hardly any room for a young bloke.Hindsight suggests keeping him,but hey,who knows at the time.

Gotta love Mr Hindsight, the only decent recruiter in the AFL, we'd all love him on our recruiting team.

Tom Harley was not delisted but traded by Port Adelaide to Geelong for 37th selection in 1998 national draft
Port used that selection to draft Adam Morgan from the Oakleigh Chargers
At the end of the 2003 season Adam Morgan was traded to the Western Bulldogs for draft pick number 34. Morgan played 14 games for the Bullies before being delisted at the end of 2006 after suffering a serious injury by the looks.
Port used that selection to draft Luke Peel from the Sandringham Stingrays.
Luke Peel was then delisted at the end of the 2005 season after playing no games for Port.
So, despite 2 attempts, Port ended up with not much for trading away the current Geelong captain.
But that's footy - rather than bag the Power we should congratulate Harley for making the most of his second opportunity. Port certainly have done OK without him.

Agree (esp on the not bagging the Power bit

) - but Harley really didn't warrant selection and a place on the list while at the Power.
And Booney's right, with the other players on our list at the time, it wasn't a bad decision to trade him.
Full credit to him for taking what was probably a kick in the guts at the time and putting in the effort to become a very good AFL player. Better not win a bloody flag this year though Tom!!!

Well its like that trade and the subsequent draft picks are cursed.
