Gibbs is a frontrunner of the highest order. Hard to think of a more overrated player in the league. The reason the Blues failed this year was not because of Ratten's coaching but because they just have far too many sheep dogs and not enough who would go in and get their hands dirty. This is why McLean has been so vital for Carlton since forcing his way into the side.

Add to that the fact the Blues don't have enough Gorillas up front or in the backline and bang there's your problem. I've said it for years...they need about three Waites but they've only got half of one.

In your case you should have just highlighted the hard to think bit.

So I've mulled over the whole Ratten sacking thing and have come to the conclusion that the board sees our 'window' as the next two years, which will theoretically coincide with Judd moving into the twilight of his career. But i think it's putting all our eggs in one basket sacking the coach and then going after either Roos (who's said no) or a 59yo who may not even want to do the job. What then? For what it's worth, I think we'll get Malthouse, much to my utter disgust (because I've sledged him ever since he dropped latin phrases at West Coast press conferences).

But despite that, I'll keep supporting my club, just like I have since the mid to late 70's, despite the odd personalities, the board room indiscretions and what I perceive to be stupid erratic decisions by a club not willing to bide its time and see out a ~ 600k contract only to jump into a multi million dollar one.

And I'd like to see Ratts have success. He's held his head up high and conducted himself over and above other professionals at the club. Well played Ratts.

Well said Inspector .. The Blues seem to be putting a bit on the line, but I think they'll be desperate to avoid mistakes of the past so won't ignore the next generation of talent that needs to come through.

Surely they wouldn't have sacked Ratten, unless they thought Malthouse would take the job.

I'm thinking he'll be appointed fairly soon

I think that goes without saying that they would have some idea he'd take the job. I hope he doesn't. Firstly because it'd stuff up the regime at Carlton. Secondly, I don't like the bloke, never have and never will.

Ratten.

Seriously, I'd see Ratten's contract out (and providing he failed*), then if Mick was serious about coaching again, go for him, but personally the only one I'd consider an instant win for us is Roos and he's said no.

*Ratten's year can't be considered a complete failure because we've hardly had a consistent unit on the park all year. Give him that chance and then yep, if he fails, we move on.

If Malthouse takes the job, I'd be interested to see how he and Kernahan work together.

If Malthouse doesn't take the job, then we're in the sh1t aren't we?

Malthouse could go one of two ways, take the job and hold us to ransom or say no and enjoy life in the media like Matthews. And I wouldn't blame him one iota if he did.

Forget all this talk of other candidates.
Malthouse will be coaching Carlton next year. No question about it.

Yesterdays paper stated that Carlton had used 41 players for this season at least that should give them a guide for the future.Malthouse is not doing very well covering his tracks, why not just be honest, instead of pretending that him or his manager hasnt been approached.

Malthouse to coach, Cloke to come with him and then target more KPP Backs to support Henderson and give Watson for time to develop.

They need to decide which way they want to go with Kreuzer, do they want him as a forward or no 1 ruck man because at the moment he is neither. Can not play Kreuzer, Warnock and Hampson in same side so decide what their roles are and stick to them.

Need a hard in and under midfielder who can help Judd and release Murphy, Gibbs, Simpson and co (Got Robinson i know.)

Bryce Gibbs needs to get a set role wether that be a midfielder, soft half back (Which he is now) or a defensive role on opposition best smaller forwards.

Garlett needs to get back to his 2011 year because he cost his side games this year and should have been dropped, Waite needs help and also needs to stay on the park and whats the go with Lucas? I reckon he might be on the way back to Perth.

Bad luck to Ratts but i think its the right move, Mick is a great coach and will be good there.
