I heard on the weekend that the top 11 or 12 executives of the AFL are paid the same as the salary cap for one AFL team. Seems like we've let the bottom feeders take over our game. Do the AFL do realise they aren't footy and that real footy will take place regardless of an AFL being there, or not?

AFL Salary Cap was $13,000,000 in 2019.

If rumours are on the money that Gil gets around $1.5m or more per year then it's up to another 10 or 11 to get $1m+ each to get there.

Would be close, but I wouldn't think many of them would be over the $1m mark other than McLachlan and maybe Hocking.

This is shitting me no end at the moment. The narrative from Gil that this could destroy our game.

Nope, it might destroy the AFL as we know it but footy would continue on without the AFL until it recovered. It's become bloated and manipulated for revenue to the point they are destroying the actual game. 16 minute quarters might benefit top level players so they can squeeze in more games but has anyone but the AFL called it a benefit?

I've said it before but they need to separate the league from the game. The game should always be bigger than whichever muppet is trying to ruin it at the time.

So the AFL want a handout from the federal government.
Happy with that to pay staff who have been stood down.

Not happy if it goes to players given some players are still on a couple of hundred grand and doing bugger all for it.

The AFL don’t want a handout they just borrowed $600m
Individual clubs are applying for the Jobseeker assistance package so they can pay their staff

I just heard they’ve asked the federal government for assistance.
I caught the arse end of it on the news.

Anyone else see/hear it?

I only heard them say that individual clubs were looking at it in the form of the Jobseeker package to pay their staff

Maybe the top end players can reduce their wages another 20%.
That’d probably cover the costs of wages for assistance coaches/admin staff.

Two different matters
The AFL pay the players wages
The individual clubs pay for all staff and their reserves players

The AFL has borrowed the money and done a deal with the players already

The clubs need to pay their staff so are looking at the Jobseeker package

Yeah right.
Didn’t know that.

So clubs who have a large number of well paid staff, who have now had to stand them down want assistance with paying them?

Correct.
The coaches and the assistants who get paid plenty should be fine but the it’s the people who man the phones and work in the office who have been stood down without pay need the $1500 from Centrelink
