Talk on the national game

Another brilliant Magpie gone interstate when the Power pick up another player who is exactly the same as Lindsey Thomas, but 14kg lighter, about 4 picks earlier. **** sake Port Adelaide, get your act together.

notable non selections include Skipworth, he may be selected in the pre-season draft and Hier, Jacobs from WWT, Hughues from Norwood and Millar from NA, hopefully these boys may get selected in the rookie draft

One other interesting point, I believe 14 players were selected from QLD, which is 2 more then SA,

WA also had more selections then SA, it makes me question our u/17 and u/19 system

I wouldn't worry about it too much Syd. As you'd know, there were 20 Queenslanders invited to the draft camp alone, so that result was always on the cards.
I feel there was a healthy amount taken from SA and given the number from WA and a few recycled players thrown in, it must be the fewest taken from the U18 comp for some time.
Think Davey to Essendon is a great result for him personally and I feel they did well to get Jetta where they did as well.
Congratulations to Nick Gill and Bryce Campbell.
Was Isaac Weetra considered a realistic chance of being drafted? Must admit I hadn't heard too much about him prior to the draft.
I'm disappointed for Tom Hurley but I'm sure he'll get rookied by someone, so if he's good enough he'll still make it.
I think the Rodent is a worthwhile gamble by the Power with the last pick used in the draft.

The SANFL clubs don't pay anything, it is a paper figure, in that if your AFL listed players play a combined total of 100 SANFL games ($350/game) in the year and for arguements sake 20 reserves ($75/game) $36 500 will come of the SANFL clubs salary cap based on last years figures.

In other words the AFL listed players are counted against the salary cap at least on paper.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

It was interesting to see the saints pass on their last 3 selections, it would seem they are keen to top up with recycled players, so I would think Hart would still be a chance

one other point of some note, Kanga's used all their selections so the only life line I can see for skippy is either the Saints or the power, but Miller would seem to be the front runner at the Power

the Sellar is the most interesting in today's draft

for the past 2 years up to this years u/18 championships he was considered a potential #1 pick and the best young tall in footy

obviously a poor u/18 carnival and second half of the season has affected his position in the pecking order, with other talls such as Gumbleton, Hansen, Thorp, Reid, Riewoldt, Brown and Frawley all being selected in front of Sellar

recent reports advise Sellar was battling illness during the u/18 carnival where he also lost significant weight and strength

Sellar's mis-fortune at the time may well become both club and players fortune as he may prove to be a steal at pick 14 and hopefully over the journey of his career prove the early judges correct that he was the best tall in this current crop

Very impressive player, I wanted the Crows to take him with their second pick.

Skillful player, very composed, always has time which is the sign of a class player. Is deceptively tall and will be a good AFL player.

I think that's mainly because he kind of looks like Burton. :P

I guess there are similarities, but not too many.

can someone tell me more about this kid?

Been at Norwood the past 3 years, had played 51 games, kicked 35 goals. A ball magnet midfielder with tons of courage. Only thing that lets him down a little is his kicking for goal and an extra 5-10 metres on the kick would be handy. However, I've seen a lot worse than Bryce play AFL footy. Good pick up. 181cm, 79kg.

I know some of the AFL clubs questioned Bryce' kicking and mentioned it was something he needed to work on ... I don't actually think it's THAT bad, and would rate him as one of Norwood's best kicks for goal when on the run (set shots need a little work, but I think thats perhaps more mental than mechanical).

Possibly lacks a yard or two of pace for AFL level, but is great in the clinches and heavy traffic, and is the best tackler I've seen at the Parade since a young Gary McIntosh.
