Couldn't recall any squealing from Crows fans last year when Jacobs wanted to leave Carlton to come back home.....

Works both ways.

I actually agree with you there Jabber. We've had players leave but we've also had some pretty handy players come home. D Jarman, Scotty Thompson (pretty sure Melb would still like him on their list), and now Sam Jacobs just to name a few.

Don't think Carlton is immune from this as there was a bucket load of screaming from Blues fans over here about Jacobs wanting out. All clubs would be disappointed in losing a young player to home sickness and have a right to voice their disappointment/ disapproval.

Didnt Jacobs want to leave because he was 3rd or 4th ruckman at Carlton not because he was home sick? Probably felt if he was going to move why not come home. Unlike Gunston who would figure very regularly in the Crows line up, he is going home because he is home sick.

Of course. Why would the fans be happy. Carlton put a lot of work into Sauce. I however said the Crows as in the football club, not the fans.

With the Jacobs trade, Carlton played fair with the Sauce to make sure he got to where he wanted. Sure the club would've been disappointed but I can't recall the Blues carrying on like Adelaide.

One day the shoe will be on the other foot re a SA lad wanting to come home, and clubs will have the memory of the way Adelaide spoke about the Gunston situation....

Jacobs would've just about played all year at Carlton if he stayed. At no stage did Carlton have all it's ruckmen up and firing. Sauce was a wanted player, and it was his choice not Carltons for him to leave. So if Gunston said he felt he was on the outer by being dropped back to Central throughout the season then his reason would've been OK?

Jabber you said it yourself - at Cartlon he plays if others are missing. At Adelaide he just plays regardless and now Maric is a second choice ruckman looking for a number one ruck job. Judge the club based on how it handles the Maric trade if you want to use the Jacobs trade as a comparison.

I bet a Victorian club would be very dirty if a 19 year old wanted to jump ship back to SA after investing 2 years of development into him.

Nothing to say that this wont happen with Gunston and his desire to get to Hawthorn. I don't agree with the Crows taking an award away from someone but in the long run it doesn't mean a whole lot in the scheme of things.

I think if a players wants to be traded because he feels he is not getting the opportunities he thinks he deserves is fair enough but home sickness just sounds weak to me. As Hondo said judge the Crows on how they treat the Maric trade as that has a better comparison to the Jacobs scenario.

Yeah it might be now that the press might be going the way of the dodo. Like your new sig. Sando will have picked up a pointer or two from such people as Thompson, Scott, McCartney, Balme, Wells. Now THAT'S a good appointment.

That sounds a bit weak to me too- suck it up and prove you deserve the opportunities you think you do is the way to go.

Your only in the game for so long, id say he has prob done all he can to prove his case as a younger player at the club. If you not getting a consistant game and young favoured players coming in why not look elsewhere

So you think Maric should suck it up and prove he is better than Jacobs? I would like to see Maric stay dont get me wrong but obviously he can see the writing on the wall and who wants to sit around waiting for a bloke to get injured. It is a job to these blokes and if you think you can get better opportunities else where then why not?
Im sure families are close but seriously its an hour flight from Adelaide to Melbourne. Would hate to see how some of the players would go if they played soccer and were good enough to make it and play overseas?

There is a difference between players who will not get the opportunity they do deserve and those relatively new ones who think they deserve more than they have actually earned.

Maric has put in for long enough and has practical reasons to move on to a club more in need, where he will have higher ranking for his position at selection.
Gunston has had numerous opportunities and has been selected to play when his form didn't justify it, and only began to earn his place fairly recently.
He has not yet demonstrated consistency, and I would not like to have seen the Crows rely on him as a key position player on what he has produced so far.

Just looking at what has happened over the last week, looking at how Adelaide will go next season. Basically Gunston, Davis, Armstrong and Maric are out.

Out: Gunston (Haw), Maric (Rich), Armstrong (Syd) Davis ($$$$ sorry I mean GWS)
In: Brown (Norwood), Johnstone (syd), Lynch (St.K) and Crouch (Vic - not until 2013)

I would say that the crows will be looking much the same as they did towards the end of last season as Davis was injuried and Talia was taking up CHB. Of course there will be no Gunston, but Lynch is likely to get a crack in the same sort of role. But with Johstone in the side as well will be intersting, my understanding is that he is a 192cm type, similar to Lynch in some respects.

Of course I have not included the Tippett deal at this stage as I think this would throw a small spanner into the works. Only small though depending on the player they get for him.

So based on this I say they Adelaide are in the same or if they can get some guys fit on the field probably in a better position than they finished last year. With Crouch to come in 2013, I would say things are looking good at West Lakes for the next few years. Just my opinion but I think Adelaide have done well in trade week this year.

The crows have just delisted Myke Cook, James Craig, James Sellar and Will Young.

Craig is a bit unlucky. The rest were as expected though.

I hope the Crows pick Will Young up as a rookie. Very unlucky to get injured in the finals this year.
