Disgraceful catering here. This place has never been able to cope with a crowd of more than 3000. In saying that, its a great atmosphere.

Other posters have also commented on the catering problems at AO with large crowds. Hopefully that can get sorted because the crowd looks great on TV! I was listening on the radio and wasn't used to hearing the crowd noise at a Port game.

I wonder if the AFL will now do 1 Port game per year at AO until the oval is officially ready?

That said, there's a novelty factor helping the crowd size today.

That was bizarre barracking for Port for the first time in years, their forward line and midfield isn't too bad but geezus their backline can be frustrating and hopeless!
Motlops either fantastic or terrible and nothing in between, luckily there was more fantastic stuff today.
Not a big fan of his but Westhoff was good.
The young ruck man was hopeless, Port need to throw everything at some mature ruckmen aka Blake, etc.

Just got back from The Oval and what a grand day out it was.

Got the bus down to town and walked with the throng from the CBD to the ground, reminiscent of the walk to the MCG from Melbourne CBD.

The queue for tickets at the gate was massive and seemed to indicate that the crowd was larger than anticipated. However the line moved pretty quickly and I missed only 4 minutes of the start.

The atmosphere was fantastic, shades of a Test match full house with everyone in good spirits and the banter flowing freely. Melbourne supporters were pretty well represented but failed to make a noise compared to the home team.

Spent the first half on the scoreboard hill and the second half on the members side. The queues for beer and food were pretty big and I agree with previous posters that catering needs a major upgrade. Weslo spent most of their time trying to get people to move out of the walkways - thankfully there was enough space to allow that. The crowd of 29,340 was impressive and I'm sure the Power, AFL and SANFL would have been happy with that. I went as a neutral supporter and saw many neutrals there (including Hawthorn and Geelong fans) and I'm sure AFL at The Oval will continue to attract neutral supporters far more than Footy Park ever has.

Got stuck into the turps after half time and enjoyed the close finish as Port managed to avoid the wooden spoon, much to the relief of their fans.

All in all a wonderful afternoon out and bring on 2014 when AFL calls Adelaide Oval home...

Good morning all. :D

Firstly, great day there yesterday and as we know there are not 30,000 regular Port fans at home matches to see many neutrals there for the match was great. Well done to all who can say "I was there".

Secondly, a little like the SCG, this will be a unique ground to play matches at with the modern day style of AFL football. The lateral movement out of the back half and especially from kick ins will be harder to implement with the narrower ground. The MCG being 172*146m and the AO being 190*125m. The 20 odd metres and lack of "deep pockets" certainly showed up in yesterdays clash.

Ebert had his best game for the year, Westhoff was a focal point and Trengove and Carlile were sound.

One club. No spoon.

From the TV is looked like the members stand had some bare patches and the bradman stand also. Fair to say the family friendly part had a few gaps also ;) Hill looked great with all the people there....

Will be interesting to see what crowd they get when the novalty/neatrals dissapear!

Now the wait till the 2014 or 15... more likely last 2014 early 2015 for when the next game can be played there

get over yourself, Barto said it looked like more that 29k, yes it did if you looked at the hill (I even said it looked great  ) but some large sections of the members stand were empty and the bradman reasonably thin.... probably because everyone wanted to stand on the hill, dont blame them, perfect day for it!

Reckon there will be a few sunburnt heads to match the hangovers

I reckon (and have nothing to back this up other than "gut feel") that Adelaide Oval will always represent a better venue for neutral supporters.

Boak's couple of goals were brilliant and Ebert looked much more like the player we know he can be.

Good finish to a season that hasn't provided many highlights for the faithful.
