Adelaide Season 2011

Talk on the national game

Neil Craig would have to allow both Tippet & Walker to actually play in the forward 50 for them to become a super combination. He likes them to play up on the wings in the defensive zone...

Also for Tippet & Walker building this formidable duo over time... I didn't know that Tippet was also going to GWS in 2012

60 goals in his first full season... not a bad effort.

Now lets talk Justin Westhoff.

Yeah, let's talk Justin Westhoffs first season! He then dropped off in his second and third years.

According to a certain reigning premiership club president Walker has already signed.

I don't think it matters.
Walker has football talent, but I don't think he has the type of skills it takes to be the more than one-dimensional player required to be a top player at AFL level.
He has been given opportunities to learn to do more than mark and kick, but his improvement has been limited.
If he doesn't develop those skills this year, I don't think he ever will.
But I think he'll be a "star" at Norwood this season, unless injuries force the Crows to use him

People keep talking about how Walker is from NSW so it's a done deal - but Broken Hill whilst over the border is basically SA. On top of this, Walker has been a Crows fan all his life:

http://www.afc.com.au/Default.aspx?tabid=4417&newsId=53176

“It’s always a dream to play in the AFL, but to grow up as a Crows supporter and now to be elevated from the scholarship on to the senior list - it’s a dream come true,” Walker said.

Not saying this means he won't go - if he can't cement a spot in the starting line up this season then he would no doubt consider the move - but I think him going to GWS is far from a 'lock' at this stage.

Yea, very true.

The fact that he already had a couple of premiership medals and a brownlow medal in his pocket probably made the decision a little easier though. He'd ticked all the boxes, now for some fun in the GC sun.

Again - I think it depends on how this year goes for Walker. If he locks in his spot he we stay. If he is back with Norwood near the end of the year for the 3rd year in a row, then he will go IMO.

Then if he doesnt get consistent AFL footy this year, you have to ask how good is he actually?

Lets not forget he came onto the scene when our FWD line was fodder

Exactly FS. If he can't crack it this year then he probably won't be much of a loss if he does go.

I don't know Walks personally, so Im only making an assumption and could well be wrong .. But from my understanding he's very much a country lad and loathes the hustle and bustle of Sydney.

I think moving to another club is not beyond him, but I think he's pretty anti-Sydney so would be surprised if it were there .. Don't hang me if Im wrong though lol (there's my $5 E/W bet :D )

I reckon Adelaide are in for an interesting season. depends on that forward line. Tippet, Porplyza, Walker or is it Tippet, Porplyza and McKernan - The kid looked alright in the trials and perhaps this may be his season, who knows.
There midfield looks alright with if you consider the likes of Thompson, Doughty, Vince, Dangerfield and Martin would be going thought there and thats just to name a couple really.
Backline, Well Rutten is wall and this is Davis' year to shine. Still I feel a team with 2 decent monsters down there will test them out a bit.
I believe that they will finish around 7 - 10. I believe they can make the 8, but Tippett needs to kick straight to say the least. So again 7 - 10 for these boys.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

Now you're just being mischievous. No reason that Tippett can't kick more goals this year than he did in 2009. He certainly should be a better player. While Walker has 36 goals in 18 games (don't forget 22 games in an AFL season) no reason to think he too can't do better this year. So if we say Tippett kicks 65 (just 10 more than his career high) and Walker 54 (10 more than his career average over a 22 week season we're only looking at Henderson kicking 31 for the year to give 150 between the 3. Certainly no guarantees that they'll do that, but I don't think you can argue they don't have the potential to.

Mischievous, moi? Heaven forbid! I suggest a wager mon ami. If those three can kick 150 goals this season I will let you choose an Avatar for me which I must use all Summer and cannot remove until March 1, 2012. If your three guys can't kick 150 I get to create an avatar for you that you must use until the same date.

Do we have a bet?

REB

Like someone has pointed out, McKernan might push one of those three out, and there's always the chance of injury. How about instead of those three in particular we make it any 3 key forwards and I'll accept.

So I'm not being mischeivous, just accurate. You don't think those three can kick 150 goals either. Here endeth the lesson. Thank you linesmen, thank you ballboys.

regards,

REB

No, I think those 3 can kick 150 goals between them. I'm not certain they will, nor am I certain they won't get hurt, pushed out by someone playing better or moved to another position. If you want to make it 3 key forwards kicking 150 between them then I'm in. If not, then you obviously reckon there are 3 crows players capable or 150 goals in a season.

If Tippett,Walker and Henderson/McKernan cant kick 150 between them ( only one of Henderson and McKernan ) who the hell are the other three?

Yep - Tippett, Walker & Henderson to kick 150 goals between them.

(TBH I think Grahaml's prediction is possible, but very ambitious. I'm sure you'll come up with something amusing at the end of it though.)
