No mate, YOU cost your side the game !!
If I were the ump I'd be telling him "You're off the ground --- DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT" ---- while the play was being marched fifty yards down the field.

Yeah should have been a 50m penalty to Gwilt as Geelong played on after the whistle! ;)

Good point, a definate 50m penalty. Only explanation is the umpire realised he shouldn't have paid what he did and put a bob each way. If he was confident of his decision he would have played a 50 metre penalty.

One of the commentators on the radio mentioned today that the way the Saints stifled the Cats customary lethal assaults from the back half whilst creating their own, would have been concerning for the Cats and getting another week to work on it, whilst getting another game into a few that are perhaps slightly underdone could be just what the doctor ordered for the Cats.

Im inclined to agree.

Agreed with the comment about the pressure the Saints put on the Cats defence, very noticable being there. Its like a reverse flood and it works a treat, if the 2nd half was like the first it would probably have been the most effective move I've seen on another team since the Hawthorns rushed points technique, but I think the Cats finally worked out a way through it in the 2nd half.

Bloody annoyed that the Hawks lost today. Hodgey had a shocker, McPhee gave him an absolute bath. :p Morabito and Mundy were good for the purple haze, so was McPharlin, who gave Franklin a bath. Big match for Freo next week against the Cats at the M.C.G.

Hawthorn now have not even won a final in the 2 seasons since the 2008 premiership. Who would have thought that would happen at the time?

I have been trying to tell people all year that the Hawks are crap :( (detailed a post earlier showing our "streak" to be a red herring).I have been vindicated. Our output is 30% down on 2008 .Form on the road this year was woeful.Snuck into the 8 with 3 wins less then a goal and a tie.Today was just easy money which has paid for the next 5 years seasons tickets....thank god the agony is over again for another year.

Geelong just look to slow to win the flag for mine. Their best chance would be if it rains in the prelim and GF as that slows the game right down.

At the moment they are crap. They had the flu running through there team at the worst possible stage, then lost Cooney and Morris for season, 2 players that they really need to make them competative. That has simply stopped them from gaining any real momentum this season. Also with the aker problems, not that his book or comments are the problem but they really needed him to be fit and firing in there forward line to give them that extra dimension, but we all know how he went. So Pretty much out on there feet at the moment.
To be honest, whoever they get next week are in with a real shot to take them down.

Geelong have never been a quick side. The problem at the moment for the Cats is the speed of ball movement, not leg speed. In the first half against the Saints our ball movement was slowed down but when we finally took the game on we looked a lot better.

Brad Johnson looks finished.
The Bulldogs are the walking wounded at the moment, probably flattered Collingwood last night...

I just saw that too. Technically I think it was a free kick, but after seeing how the umpires had umpired for the rest of the game and NOT paying that as a free, I think Geelong can feel very hard done by. You can't decide to umpire differently in the last minute of a game.

The problem is the umpires will congratulate themselves on getting that decision right but ignore the fact that they didn't pay the correct decision in similar incidents for the entire game.

Consistency is all we ask for!

Funniest part about the whole thing was that Dawson got the free kick and noone even tackled him!

yes consistency!!!!!

Shouldve known it was going to be a long night having the same 3 umps from 9 weeks ago. Wonder if the ump who paid in the back against mooney was the sameone who let milne play on from mark, get tackled holding the ball and then give milne another chance from 9 weeks ago
