Do you think so? He left Brisbane when he was still capable of that...

Interesting point.
However, he was still capable of it, as he had done it for the past few seasons at the Dogs.
I think you'll also find that with a career after footy in mind, his media role got a little bigger this year too.
I'm not saying the Dogs did the right thing but neither did Aker.
In the long run, Aker needed to decide which career was more important to him...

If the Bulldogs didn't want him doing media they could have stopped him.

One thing that did raise the corner of my mouth into almost a smile last night. Billy Brainless dressed up as "Buzz Lightbeer".

Could they? He still would have had his say...
They asked him to use his media position responsibly and he didn't...

On the flipside, knowing the Bulldogs were concerned about his commentary, couldn't he have toned it down?
If Aker wanted to finish his AFL career in a different way, he probably needed to use his head and pull it in.
Discretion is the better part of valour some time.
There is going to be a lot of life left for him to "tell it how it is" now that his AFL career is over and there was always going to be.

It's probably appropriate that he and Sam are so friendly.
I'm not sure what his profile was back in his playing days but I think if Sam had played the modern game, he would've had the same sort of media profile as Aker.

Sam's tirade was not only anti-Bulldogs it was also a little anti-media, the very beast that feeds his bank account and ego.

"P*** off idiot".

Throwaway line to lighten up what had been pretty heavy going thus far.

Though I've no doubt he meant it at the same time...

I cant believe people thought he was serious. He said it with a smerk, clearly it was just a throw away line after a very, very serious hour of discussion. It came immediately after the handshake so it was to make people laugh, made me laugh, wasn't to be taken seriously. Some people though, they'll look for anything to hate a guy.

JASON Akermanis has named Western Bulldogs captain Brad Johnson as the catalyst in his demise at Whitten Oval.

BARRY Hall, after pressure from the Bulldogs, pulled out of a scheduled appearance on The Footy Show when Akermanis was confirmed as a guest.

THE co-author of Akermanis's book said the triple premiership player has been ``brutally honest'' about his fractured relationship with three players -- Robert Murphy, Daniel Giansiracusa and Ben Hudson.

MTR boss Steve Price was understood to have taken over as his manager.

Akermanis' autobiography, Off the Leash, is being fast-tracked by publisher Hardie Grant for a possible release in time for the finals.

Hardie Grant Publishing chief executive Sandy Grant yesterday said: "The book is by no means mean spirited. Jason is direct and honest.''

Co-author Gary Smart confirmed there was ``friction'' between Akermanis and several players at the Whitten Oval.

"What I would say is Aker has felt since he first arrived at the Bulldogs that there was a bit of failure by some of his teammates to accept him and understand him a bit,'' Smart said on SEN radio.
"And what Aker has to say about a number of people and players is brutally honest . . . the truth will hurt.''

I don't think he will either, he's 33 now and past it. But you just don't know with Aker do you? He did mention playing for the Gold Coast last night...

I reckon he'll go into the media straight away and then maybe he'll go into coaching or somthing to do with footy after that.

He'll probably lead his team to successive flags, before getting sacked for calling some rookie a "$hit truck" or a veteran a "show pony..."
