Been watching their odds drop all day :)

The blokes who re-appointed Choco should fall on their swords, they could've had Hardwick. Hoping that Sanderson gets the job now though.

With Choco gone and if Chad is next, Port will almost be likable.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

A wise man once said, "There are two typres of coaches ... those who have been sacked, and those who are going to be sacked". With the amount of money these guys get paid it's naive to think they ever resign.

Interesting - closing commentary and they're saying that Williams walked off the field, down the tunnel, through the rooms and to a waiting car.

An enigma to the end.

Obviously I'm no Port fan but one thing you can always say about Williams is like Franky, he did it his way. Perhaps the biggest fault of his later years at the Power was that he was too loyal to players who did not deserve it and didn't sacrifice his natural personality just a little bit for the good of the club.

In an era of robots Choco could only survive being Choco if the results came and when they didn't his cards were marked. Regardless of what you think of the man he is twice the person than all of the board members who insulted him with a smaller contract last year because they didn't have the cojones to sack him. Port's legacy for this decision will be to pay out that contract (until the end of the next year I think it is?).

Kudos to the fans who showed respect and to the undermanned and shamed playing group that had a real dip. When the emotion dies down Choco can look back on his term at the Power with pride. That stat about four consecutive seasons with 16+ wins is astounding. To date Choco is the only coach who has achieved this, although Bomber will equal that record if the Cats can win five more games this season.

Just a final word - Motlop is a disgrace and is my nomination for the worst player in the league. While his workrate was vastly improved he still has not gotten the lazy, selfish side out of his game. With Collingwood surging back into the match he had a chance to kick an important goal but he drops it onto the side of the boot with cutesy effort that let down his side. What a way to repay the man who has shown him more loyalty than he deserves. If I was the new Port coach my first move would be to send Motlop packing.

REB

While it is easy to be wise after the event this was never going to happen. At quarter time I still believed Collingwood would win but at 45-9 I thought Port looked the goods. As soon as Collingwood kicked the next couple of goals the result was inevitable.

Once again the punters take the bus while the Bookies ride the Benz.

Port kicking with a strong breeze in the first quarter, plus busting their ass for a win to farewell Choco, saw them get out to a 36 point lead.
It was really only a matter of time before a correction occurred.

Good comment on Choco REB. Really if you think back to when we first got into the AFL people said we wouldnt be competitive for a very long time yet we managed to do it straight away. Not only that but we were serious contenders (and serial chokers) within five/six years and premiers after eight years. Choco deserves a mountain of credit for establishing us in the AFL and in due course to be remebered as a great of our club. When the dust (and anger) settle down i hope he realises it and also that the timing was right.

Still not sold on Motlop being lazy but im one of a dying breed.

Well, knock me over with a feather, you said something complementary about something related to the PAFC. This thread should be made a sticky.

On Choco's personality, I don't think it's a case of him not being willing to sacrifice it for the good of the club as much as he truly believed what he was doing was best for the club. For that, I can't fault him for that. His emotion yesterday showed how much he loves the PAFC. He'll always be remembered as a legend in my eyes.

Agree that Motlop's selfishness cost us dearly at that crucial moment in the match. Laidley won't tolerate that kind of stuff. It's all well and good to kick goals from the grandstand, but it's a team game and grandstanding isn't part of it.

Motlop's not lazy IMO, just bloody selfish at times.
I think his defensive pressure up forward this year has been excellent.
