I was enjoying the Pfeiffer discussion. Can we just have a Pfeiffer thread then?

Harry O'brien is a great player. I actually think he is a better backman than Maxwell.

Agree on Spida too - he was very good for maybe a year or 2 in the late 90's, after that has just been slightly above-average.

Nathan Bassett was asked to fight out of his weight at Adelaide when he was full back - he did a good job of it for someone not quite big enough. He has been very good in his present role, but I agree that in another team structure he may have been better suited to the HBF. He may have made a forward flanker too given more chance to try it. Injuries are starting to catch up with him now, but he has been a very good player if not a "star".

Still a great player though.

I rate Rutten behind Merrett, O'Hailpin, Hudghton, Glass, Wakelin, Michael, Scarlett and a host of others.

But obviously those who have picked All-Australian teams in the last few seasons don't.

Yep fair call Psyber ... I wasn't meaning to suggest he's no good at that level, and has been very good in his more recent role, but it's that role as a sweeping often loose man that saw him reach All-Australian honours and I just wondered whether he is held in the same esteem as the majority of other AA players.

Yes, I think that's true. In another structure he may not have made All-Australian, although he would have been a good team player.

Right... And who has him on an AFL list?

Send him home to Centrals, sounds good to me.

He was in our best 21 in 2003 - If he hasn't developed since then it's Laidley's fault. I haven't seen the guy play other than bits and pieces on the TV though, I could be well off the mark.

just cause players have been in the AFL system doesnt mean they are show ins for a SANFL Best 21....Miller, Lokan?

and Yes maybe its laidley's fault partly but Ed himself has to accept the most of the blame...

I agree that the player is responsible for themselves, but the coach is keeping him on the list - not the player. If the coach isn't developing that player he is either negligent or incompetent.

If he was in our best 21 in 2003 and is still the same footballer, he would be in our best 21 now - generally speaking we had a better side that year than this year (IMO). I agree with your point that AFL list does not equate to SANFL domination.

Sorry Dutchy, dont agree with you. Firrito is a hack, IMO. I admit, i havent seen him play alot, but everytime i have, i have been unimpressed. His game is riddled with clangers and bad decisions.
