Mid-late in 3rd Qtr, Wakelin pushes Neitz in back very close to goal, not called, crowd and Neitz go off - Umpire (on mic) is heard to say I couldn't see it because I was front on to the pack!

I don't recall seeing an ump side on or behind the contest in the first of those.

Disagree CP on Fox Sport News last night in the first example umpire was out of shot perfectly side on 20-25 m away from the play is he is instructed. You see him come in from side on (into the camera's field) to pay the free kick in the long angle shot.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

the tribunal got it right for a change, mal this is one of the main reasons i'm not renewing my footy park membership next year, as soon blokes will get reported for blowing kisses at their opponents (insert picture of the jackovich brothers) & the other reason is that teams try not to lose rather than trying to win
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

In all honesty, when they started talking about fronting the tribunal and possibly being suspended I couldn't beleive it. As a neutral supporter watching the game (and a really good game at that) I thought it was the perfect tackle with an unfortunate result.

Pickett pinned Kane's arms, dropped his knees to bring the player to a halt and Kane went over into the turf. I don't like seeing a player knocked out but, as long as my memory serves me correct, he didn't sling him to the ground.

Umpteen tackles a game are done the same way, pinning the players arms and dropping the knees/body. Maybe it's the "Pickett" name that makes this seem worse, in my opinion, than it really is.

Thoughts?

The only thing that should have come out of it is probably a push in the back and a free to Port. Thats it. Cornes was just unluckly with the way he went done. Nothing thugish there. So I agree with you diss.

A good thing to come out of this is it might stop players from purposely letting their legs/knees go out from under them to milk a free kick. They might think twice about it after seeing the way Kane hit the ground.

Ah cool, thanks Tassie .. I'd only seen it once and was going by recollection .. The two incidents were almost identical, wonder why the ump couldn't make the same positioning for the first one?

Whatever the reason, it's good to see the Ump's paying decisions for what they clearly see, not on what they believed would have happened if they'd had a clear view (something unfortunately that can't be said for the SANFL umpires regularly).
