At the very least, Giles can't be as bad as Lobbe.

I 100% disagree. Lobbe has battled manfully in the last 6 weeks and despite being thrown in the deep end and plucked from relative obscurity, has performed better than expected.

I see him taking his opportunitys next year and running as our number 1 ruckman.

Giles on the other hand had Lade and Brogan more or less 1 on 1 as ruck coaches during his time on Ports list, McKenzie at Centrals to guide him and he only stood up when Sturt had no other talls to rely on.

IMO, Giles is way, way over-rated.

but how can you say that, when he was never given a go (just like Lobbe, until recently)
how can he be way over-rated. makes no sense to me.
when have you ever seen him play??

Sure have seen him play.

How can he be over-rated? Well, quite simply, comments made on here that he is a quality ruckman. Not from what I've seen.

when have you seen him for Sturt or Centrals? Cause he played about 2 x preseason ganes for the power.
guess we are bit off topic here, this being the cornes thread.
As a port fan, what do you think about cornes and brogan going north Booney?

well no where else to write it as the rules of this site. if its true maric may look for a new home, any chance of a pearce-maric trade happening? Could be a win-win for both clubs i think

Saw him several times for Centrals and Sturt and while the Magpies had ordinary ruck stocks at the time, he never stood out for mine. Agree to disagree on this one.

Brogan playing on surprises and upsets me a little. If he still had the fire burning, tell us, he would have been given a one-year deal for sure.

Cornes does not surprise me nor upset me. Chad was clearly on the outer at Alberton ( I dont agree with this, but see the logic ) and clearly still has the desire to play on.

Mind you, I dont see either of them doing much more than being role models at GWS, they wont be world beaters next year and Broges will struggle to get on the park.

Probably weren't paying attention. I'm not saying Giles is going to be a champion, but I reckon, quietly, port are rueing dumping him now.

He blossomed at sturt under feastys ruck coaching and won our b n f. He also had Bowen and kurtze to help him who aren't mugs.

Do you really think he would have been given another year if he wanted it?

I doubt he would pack up and leave if he had the option of staying at Port next year.

Lobbe is useful around the ground but is a completely useless ruckman. The amount of times he has landed from his running jump at the ball before the other ruckman has even left the ground was cringeworthy

He did say mid year he was seeking another year. Then announced his "retirement" a couple of days later.

Yes, he also said he was happy with his decision and knew the time was right.

@wycbloods - I do, I sure do think he would have been give another year. Performance based, perhaps $$ per game. Perhaps that was the offer and he baulked at it?

Maybe this is why Chad retired a few weeks back when most thought he would play the season out, why risk injury at a club that doesnt want you that may affect a contract with GWS.

I dont understand GWS going after Brogan though in a playing role, his body is done.

Hell no, we have enough inconsistent ball burning units as it is thankyou. Pearce is a poor mans McKay. How about Tambling/Maric for your 2nd round draft pick?
