Well done to Carlton not taking the foot of the gas and well done to Chris Judd 200 games.

They were shite. Heard the kids did OK. Gazza ?

Gracious comment re Judd and the 200. Well played Juddy.

Gaz well underdone and got shown up. cream always rises to the top in the end

What of the 27k crowd were GC fans compared to Carlton fans and the neutrals ?

what I saw of him was cringe-worthy.
When he infringed, or did anything, he appeared to look at the umpire for clarification and (correctly) plead ignorance.
That's when he wasn't fumbling the ball and dropping it.
Not sure how much life this experiment/marketing tool has in it.

I reckon there would have been a few senior players wondering "What have I done?". Gazz included since he would now know that Geelong got up over in the West and are now sitting 2 - 0.

Big loss to start with, I thought it would have been about 40 ish points. But 119, well didnt really see it coming. I would have thought they would have been more competative. Bock, Brown and Brennan as said earlier were not great. Coad will need to be an inclusing next week, they will need his mature body out there. Anyway the bright spots were Harris was good for them. Swallow looked liked he knows whats going, Toy came on and look good as well. Dixon up forward played a lone hand but definitly looked like he can play. Smith in the ruck was alright. Other than that it was a long night and there will be a few long days and night in the future. Bulldogs next week, so it does not get any easier.

Okay, so this post is a bit in hindsight after last night, but is it really any surprise?
Compare the game today to when Port and Freo came into the comp:
The AFL was only just becoming professional, not as tactically-analysed, as quick and not quite as strong bodies. Some of the "kids" for Freo and Port had already had two or three years playing against men eg Lade, Wilson, James, Francou, whereas the Suns have a huge number of eighteen-nineteen year-olds.
Back then there were quite a number of footballers in the SANFL and WAFL who were better than some in the AFL. These days probably only a handful who could be considered unlucky not to be in an AFL sides top 30.

There were a few bright spots, Dixon, Smith, Prestia and Swallow were good in moments. Tape at least kept on having a dip, but may be a little way off yet.
But will it get any better for them over the year when they get a couple of injuries and given Carlton aren't in the top 5?

I just can't wait til next year when GWS come in I think we'll see some 200 point floggings. The AFL has become a joke in all aspects

Basic skill errors gifted the Blues this one.
They say turnovers are the number one scoring source in footy, the 119 point margin evidence of that.
When they got their skills together, thought they looked good enough. This will take time, but they'll have more chance of winning a flag in 5 years than Carlton.
Thornton, Walker, both average AFL players, kicked bags of goals.
That was the most disappointing part for mine. Watching those two running around like champions they are not. Lol.
Hopefully a little improvement each week, they'll pip one this year IMO, but not many.
Right in front of me. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!

Yeah that is true. In 2 - 3 years but most likely 4 - 5 years, Day and Dixon will be dominating the forward line, Judd wont be able to keep up with Swallow, Tape and Toy will own the back line.... but you know thats still a while away really.

As for the comment earlier that Port and Freo had more mature teams, well some of those players may have had a bit longer in the SANFL. But neither team were able to recuirty Ablett, Bock, Brown, Rischetelli, Brennan, Brown, Fraser, Harbrow and Krakeouer.

So we should be expecting more from the Suns this year?
I wasn't trying to defend them, moreso wondering why so many seem to have expectations of them and comapring them to the other new teams circumstances.
