So suggesting that a person helping another person to obtain and either consume or distribute illicit drugs makes me a choirboy :? FFS It's a strange world.

Feel free to list all the drug offences that Hawthorn players have been charged with if that makes you feel better. Oh that's right, that's all heresay and conjecture. Not suggesting for one second that Hawthorn or any club is completely clean of these sort of things but after all the crap that has come Hawthorn's way from Geelong supporters it's interesting to see the reaction to this to say the least.[/quote]

The Sleeping Giant wrote:Getting a bit defensive there rod. I mentioned Hawthorn 'cause you are a Hawthorn supporter. Maybe read the sentence again. ALL FOOTBALLERS.

And If I was going to obtain drugs, I would obtain them through someone I could trust. Much safer. I'm sure Stokes wasn't pushing drugs on his mate. His mate would of got the drugs from somewhere anyway.

Yep, i'm getting defensive

You are sure Stokes wasn't pushing drugs? You know that for sure? Because the person was going to get them anyway it makes it better he got them from his so called mate?

And this makes it ok. Luckily for the planet & the youth of today that the courts don't think being a middle man is ok.
If proven & the amounts are what has been reported, he will go away. Getting sacked is the least of his worries. He'll have to worry about all the Collingwood supporters in lock up & what they might do to him.
Unless, as I said before, there are different rules for high profile people, which we all know is the case.

I'm sure he did think he could trust them, just didn't count on the phone tap.

Anyone notice the article in the paper today by Katherine Firkin that said it was heroin yet everywhere else and even another article in the same paper said it was cocaine?

True, we're all old farts who have no idea what people get up to these days ...

Mate, it doesn't matter how prevalent it is ... I'm not sure how that's relevant to whatever penalty the man should incur if he has a case to answer.

Based on your logic, we should let everyone off who speeds because there's lots out there who do it but don't get caught.

So if he is guilty of a crime, he has to do the time. Pretty simple equation really.

All I'm saying, is there is one rule that is policed by the law, yet there is another law goverrned by the AFL. Possession and testing positive to drug use are basically the same if you ask me, yet if you get done for testing positive by the AFL, nobody hears about it until you get busted for the third time. Make it one strike and you're out then??? Of course that won't happen, because you would end up with a lot of good players being banned. It's all well and good for the AFL to be making sure a club goes public after an incident like this, yet they are totally opposite when it comes to them naming players for drug use (cousins excluded).

I have lost a mate and nearly lost a relative to drug use, hardly harmless fun in my book. I'm pretty disappointed in Matty Stokes at the moment. To me it's a worry that he has already been charged.

And I didn't suggest it was harmless fun. Before you post my first comment, look at my response where I said I was being sarcastic.

Yeah, that's why I said 'tend to suggest'.

And which Cat was on the juice then Mr Holland..................................................................................s. From what I've read (yeah could be bulltish true), Stokesy was just lining it up for a (scaley) mate.

In the end

Trafficking conviction = Life ban as the AFL will make an example of him

or

Trafficking charge quashed = A Steve Johnson styled ban (albiet a longer one) imposed by the leadership group.

I've got a hunch that the cops are really desperate to land Stokesy hence the raid. They got fugg all and I'm hoping he doesn't get done for dealing. Simply put, Stokesy ****** up and did something stupid but I don't reckon he's a Ben Cousins. We shall see though.

I think you are spot on, trouble is if the charges are proven I think the AFL will set an example with this case

Trafficking charges will be dropped, he'll be found guilty for possession and spend a couple of months in the reserves and then end up All Australian and win the Norm Smith Medal this year.

He may get a chance to win the norm smith as the cats will probably be there again but no hope for AA. All this is only possible if the trafficking charges are dropped though.

With the "moe" he is sporting he could be mistaken for a columbian drug lord.

Maybe Stokes should use the "I'm a f***ed up junkie" excuse. Then he would have the AFL hierarchy going out of their way to make sure he gets all the support he needs.

Junkies tend to use drugs. I don't reckon Stokes does. Optimistic of me I know but it will all come out in the wash.

Drugs aren't everywhere.
There are significantly large sections of society where nobody uses them at all. and nobody drinks till they are drunk every Friday and Saturday night.
It just so happens that sports "stars" tend not to live in that environment, having embraced their "jock" life style early.
Alcohol abuse, smoking cigarettes, drug use, and excessive gambling tend to go together, and form part of a particular social sub-set.
The correlations show up in studies of addictive behaviour patterns published in medical journals.
[Though stray members of that sub-set do occasionally pop up in all walks of life.]

You ask anyone between 18 and 25 if they know people who take drugs, socialise where drugs are available, or have tried drugs and I bet the majority say yes. You have a habit of quoting all your jibber jabber from things you read. Maybe actually get out there in the real world yourself and take a look around. Obviously, you will be very surprised. Is this large society of people you say that don't use drugs, in the age bracket of these AFL footballers? I doubt very much.
