Just because other numnuts have got in doesn't mean Bickley should have got in.

Good footballer YES, Worthy Hall of fame recipiant NO!!!

If you look at Mal Browns contribution to football (playing and coaching) over three decades he deserves to be the Hall of Fame too. The point I'm trying to make here is I'm not just thinking of South Australians who we all know well but plauyers from earlier eras from other states who are jsut as accomplished as the Bagshaws the Davies, the Reddens, the McIntosh's, the Cornes etc who ALL deserve recognition in teh HOF well before Bickley
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

With Bickleys induction the standard has been set and when they hold a Dinner in 20 years time the 742 people invited will need a bloody big hall to dine in. ;)

Amen.....was only just thinking how few Roos players from the 90's have been in"duck"ed

Is Wanganeen eligible yet? He should be a monty for next year.

I am not completely sure of the criteria but I believe you have to be out of the game, at all levels, for 3 or more years. Thus the fact Wanganeen and Ruccuitto have played Country Footy in recent times ensures their entry is delayed by some time.

Secondly, well done to Big Super Carey, a giant of the game who,as a kid, I remember watching him loaf around Alberton and get his hand on every ball that was thrown up or in. A deserved inductee.

Mark Bickley, really. I never rated him as a player and then when he turned thug ( although out of character ) he fell further in my books. His induction is a joke and he should be ashamed of his name being held in the same regard as many of the true champions within the HOF. Joke.

You must be three years out of senior football. No matches at any level below the highest level affect your qualification period. In recent years, only the likes of Craig Bradley and Steve Silvagni, from memory, have gone in the moment they are eligible from three years after their last game. but I'd be betting that Hird, Voss and Buckley will all go straight in the moment they are eligible.

I'd like to point out as part of this debate that there is also a "Legends" category withing the Hall of Fame for which individuals whose achievements are peerless are inducted:

http://www.afl.com.au/aflhq/awards/halloffame/legends/tabid/855/default.aspx

This is the category for which inductees are judged against their peers. I certainly don't believe that Bickley deserves to be in that category.

The Hall of Fame itself simply recognises individual's achievements in their own right.

Booney wrote:DW, I guess the confusion lies within the criteria set down as to what is required to enter the HOF. I agree 100% that in the true sense of the word "Legend" in Australian football terms Lou Richards is indeed a legend.

The question is, do you change the criteria to fit an individual?

"Legends

The Hall of Fame has a special category of inductees known as Legends. Individuals are selected for Legend status if they have had a particularly significant positive impact on the game of Australian Football."

Surely Lou fits that ?

http://www.afl.com.au/Season2007/Awards ... fault.aspx

I wonder if anyone could supply us with the full list of criteria? I dont have time to search for it right now.

The wording for this classification reads – “

9.1 There shall be a special category of inductees of the Hall of Fame known as “Legends”.

9.2 The classification of Legend will be applied to honour those players and coaches who have had the most significant impact on the game of Australian Football and caused the game to change significantly for the better. Legends should be players and coaches who immediately come to mind when players and coaches at the very pinnacle are discussed.”

Like I said Fantapants, I dont agree with the induction of Bickley and you do. No doubt if we looked through all the members of the HOF we would argue the case of several others too. This sort of "club" will always invoke hearty debate.

Anywho, Im off to Sportsbet with DW to cash in on Rog's "hunch".....

Judging by the debate over the last few pages, this may not be the place to start my campaign to get roger woodcock into the HOF. I may just concentrate still on getting the Norwood team of the century re-chosen.

I'd call Wilson better than an "average Joe" and, while Bicks was no superstar (like I said), calling a 2 time premiership captain and 272 game player an "average Joe" is an insult I reckon.

There's minimum qualification requirements to keep the scrubbers out. Someone who is good enough to be an AFL regular for 13 years straight and be captain of his club has to have something going for him more than an "average Joe" does. If Bicks was an "average Joe" then, my god, 80% of AFL players must be terrible.

As for the guy defending Dean Kemp. Mate, my issue with Kemp is that I don't see how he is any different to the Bicks' selection which now causing the non-Crows supporters on SAFooty to go into meltdown.

Ok, well im not 100% on Bickley's career so maybe you could clear a couple of things up. Did he win a B & F, Norm Smith and was he ever an All Australian?
