let me just say it is very easy for all other teams supporters to say its time for the to move but just for one minute put your club in the same situation, yes even Crows fans....

It would probably be a hotter debate to the Melbourne based Roo fan I would think.

Unfortunately Dutchy The VFL/AFL have wanted rid of Geelong for years but we are still there how easily they forget that if it wasn't for Geelong there wouldn't be an AFL. Geelong started the push for the VFL and has been one of the biggest supported not membered clubs in Victoria. The AFL want Geelong to play in Melbourne not Geelong but we refuse and keep upgrading Kardina Park and will stay in Geelong.

Also interesting to note when comparing the fans to members ratio, Roos are top of the table!

Dutchy, possibly a bad thing going forward?

If this stat is true (not suggesting at all that it isn't) does it basically mean your membership numbers won't grow much.

I'm just glad that the AFL has decided to pick on another team for a while, and leave my team alone for a change.

What's your history of following North Melbourne, Dutchy? Are you from Melbourne? 3rd generation supporter?

If he is neither of the latter (especially the '3rd generation' quip) does it make him less passionate,or his opinion count any less? Seems as though,to me anyway, that is what you are illuding too..

I think if he is not from Melbourne and doesn't have a "real" alliance with the club, besides picking them out when you're a kid because you like the colours or a particular player, then his opinion would certainly be different to a supporter who grew up going to Arden St every home game.

No, it doesn't count any less.

for the record, I grew up watching the Roos in the 70's and 80's and esp when they played on Friday night, Kraquor brothers, Matty Larkin, Peter German, Ian Fairly etc etc....so have always been my VFL/AFL team....so you are right I dont have the physical attachment to Arden St

Rushby - your right I guess it confirms that the Roos admin have worked their arses off to sign up fans to members yet there isnt much scope to improve/grow the melb market....I saw the figures last year, from memory we had 250,000 fans and 26,000 members against COlligwood who had 1,200,000 fans and 35,000 members.....

I went to a weekday Kangaroos training at Arden Street a few years back. Old biddies doing the sausage sizzle and no frontrunners. Glorious stuff.

That Sydney "Bloods" stuff is a gimmick IMO. Nothing working class about that club anymore. And there will eventually be no "Shinboner spirit" (although I find that term overused) left if the Roos go to the Gold Coast.

That's my tip for 10-15 years time when the AFL feel Sydney is ready for 1 AFL game per week

Sorry WB supporters (sorry RH)

Purely speculation (probably unnecessary) I haven't heard this idea anywhere

Won't happen Footscray will get behind the doggies and I know a few local businesses in Footscray who are getting behind the doggies and with the Williamstown alliance in the VFL it will only make the doggies bigger in Melbourne's West.

The dogs are very fortunate that the club pretty much has the Western Suburbs to themselves, nearest neighbours are Geelong and Essendon(?) I think.

North Melb sadly is in a small corridoor surrounded by other AFL teams.

Also the dogs are in the middle of $20 mill + renovations funded in part by Federal and State Govts, and the Mayibynong Council, so i'd doubt the stake holders would like to see that wasted.

As a complete outsider it looks like (for the current time @ least) the dogs seem to have a fairly healthy level of respect from the AFL for their efforts off the field to get corporate sponsors and members (32,000 in 2007).

I hope.

I found the quote in a recent Caro article -

Its supporters — more of whom are paid-up members per head than any other club — have every right to be confused.

Dont know if the future is so Rosie for Bullies and Demons either really...look at Round 19 this year, both teams drew only 18,000 to perfect conditions at the TD....same weekend Roos pulled over 26,000 against the Eagles

Two teams having an annus horribilus compared to two top 4 chances - a little bit apples and pairs. Demon fans never go to TD. I went to your Sunday twilight match against the Dees - 20,000 of which I reckon about 5K or so were Dees fans.

But I take your point.
