Crows Delistings

Talk on the national game

Craigy and the club have made the right call IMHO ... I've felt for quite some time it's needed to happen, but better late than never.

Tough part for the Crows is the much documented shallowness of this draft, meaning they really can't afford any failures with their selections, particularly the earlier ones.

Will naturally lose a lot of depth this year, and when the injuries hit and the kids get called up the wins will probably be hard to come by, but from a supporters perspective I still think it's satisying to watch the progress of emerging talent.

Personally, I find it hard to fault the Crows overall off-season performance thus far.

no problem with the delistings but i'd keep on eye on pfeiffer and if he's better than anything at #59 redraft him.
however, going down a youth path and keeping honest triers like doughty seems a tad silly. seems like torney lost out to adelaide's 30 yo rule however.
have a feeling that 2008 could bbe make or break year for craig with regards to longetivity - he may have to release the handbrake a bit or face the same thing that happened at norwood where the intense defensive aspects overrode the innate pleasure of playing footer.

You are on the money with Bock @ CHB - he has his best games there and we seem to look more attacking when he is there !!!

Agreed. Moran as a defender scares me. He doesn't have a lot of footy smarts and lacks intensity, not a good combo for a defender. And I completely agree re Bock, he's a dead set defender.

Agree on Bock at CHB too

I have heard Craigy interviewed on Bock and he thinks Bock can develop into one of the elite CHB's in the league so looks like the coach agrees!

Torney gave a good interview this arvo on 5AA, he doesnt seem bitter as such, maybe regretfull that he didnt get an official farewell for his service for the club, yet that is often the way it goes in AFL footy.

Torney would be a great pick up for an AFL club, he was 8th on the Crows best and fairest list, a club like Melbourne would benefit from his services immensley.

He is also quite open to a return to the Panthers if the club want him which is great for the SAFC, yet after the draft this year I doubt he will be available!

If South want to offer him the Captaincy, that is a move I would endorse and encourage. South have not had a player of his calibre for a while and he would be more than welcome back home!

So Craig and his cohorts have come to the conclusion the list is tired and needs freshening up.2 years too late IMHO,while the core group of 2006 was flying, the players who were not able to force their way into selection calculation then have been so far behind in their development its too late for them.Even when going well,Brisbane,WCE,Sydney and Port gave younger players some time to develop.Craigs reliance on 24-5 players has been to the detriment of the rest of the list.IMO anyway.

All good news.

Its his off field issues he needs to deal with though. If he can improve that side of things, no reason why he cant make it at another club. Not sure Richmond would be the best side for him to go to though.

It wouldn't be a good thing for his development though if he finished up in a team with say Cousins, Didak, Medhurst, and others who would encourage him not to straighten himself out.

I still remember what Jonathon Ross might have been if he'd ever been sober! Talent is useless if you don't have the head to use it.

sadly I think Darren is in the mould of Jonathon. A bloke I know saw him out on the town the day he got delisted surely you would be too embarrassed to step outside of your house.

If Darren is such a hot prospect how come the no-one traded with the Crows for him??

NFC - I thought he was going to be in the Power's starting 18 next year? Why isn't he training with them?

Lots of questions there :D

When did I ever say he was going to be a Power player in 08? I said I thought they would be interested, and if they did take him he would've walked into their team.

still why would you go out in public and act like nothing had happened especially the night that it is announced in the media?

Mate, Pfeiffer, had his opportunities, he got sent back to Norwood because he was not training at AFL standards, he was presenting himself at training in an unfit manner, finally he found himself in couple of off-field incidents..

this kid has no one to blame but himself, 1000 lads would like the opportunity he had, potential or no potential he did not give it a crack, and his attitude let him down...

I hope the lad learns from the experience, however the club can not be blamed for losing patience

Yes I've heard it a 100 times before but for crying out loud he was a teenager. IMO when you're starting to rebuild you don't delist one of your youngsters with immense potential.

Several clubs have inquired about him, funny that considering the Crows couldn't handle him.
