I was just reading the AFC web page and found the following article

Adelaide’s NSW scholarship player Taylor Walker was voted best afield in his competition’s senior grand final on Saturday.

Walker, 17, kicked seven goals from centre half forward for North Broken Hill in its 29-point win over West. He had also kicked seven goals the previous week in the preliminary final.

Walker last year was Adelaide’s first signing through the AFL’s NSW Scholarship program. This year he was chosen in the All Australian under 18 side after representing New South Wales at the national under 18 championships.

The scholarship program allows AFL clubs to add selected players to their list once they have reached drafting age. Adelaide will consider its options with Walker before this year’s national draft in November.

Best to target ex-SA boys - Griffin (as Blue Boy says), Hurn, Waters ????

The obvious gap most people point to is a key forward - but for mine, a really good midfielder is what we need to help the ageing Edwards and Goodwin. Midfielders are key in modern football I reckon

Sam Butler. Should be our #1 priority. Played about 30 games for the Eagles, is about 21 but has been injury prone. Such a smooth mover though and has great skills.

Butler is the most talented out of Waters and Hurn IMO, he has been a missing ingredient for WCE this year and has been sorely missed as he gives a lot more than people realise, he is an excellent rotating midfielder as we saw last year when he was going through the middle with the likes of Kerr, Cousins and Judd and a very valuable half forward.

I cant see Hurn or Waters going any where and probably not Butler to be honest, but if any were to leave he would probably be the first because of his injury problems this year.

If you were targeting Butler, Hurn or Waters though, be prepared to give up something of value because all are rated very highly at WCE and the club doesnt get heavily involved in Trade Week.

Waters is the one. Would develop nicely into a mini basset with help from the hound. Don't know how to get him though, Jericho and Meeson will be used as trade bait. Maybe to Carlton, 1st or 2nd round pick to Richmond and Edwards back to Adelaide. I too would chase symes from Port. Word is he is ready to throw his name out there when the contract runs out.

Nup doesn't mean he is going to make it conpared to any SA boy.....I bet the kid would love to be testing himself week in week out in our 19s/ressies competition.

Funny how the best kid for NSW in this years carnival was a kid based in SA - McGregor who plays in our 2s and has played league footy. I bet he gets drafted before Walker

S.Trigg was on radio last night and was talking about trading and the needs of the club such as forwards and midfielders were on the clubs radar - which is good news that they realise this. Also he added @ this stage they didnt see much available - but anything can happen if we can get the right deal done.

He was also asked about the Big Pav and said that they had actually met with his mngmnt a fair bit prior to him signing - this was a positive for me cause I thought we were doing nothing as usual.

He also added that they were not doing anything with the list until after trade week cause you never know what some one might want.

Sounded like the same stuff he spoke about 12 months ago. They don't seem to have progressed much in 12 months off the field and on the field went backwards. Not a good sign, IMO - another 12 months of the same won't be good for the club.

Ill take that bet. Considering Walker can be promoted before the draft no dramas at all. Plus if Mcgregor was more talented wouldnt he be an all australian junior .

I agree with you though. Im sure young walker still cries himself to sleep over the fact he never played SANFL Under 19s . Whilst he is being promoted to the Adelaide Crows senior list.

Can i ask again why doesnt Mcgregor/Holmes get the same oppurtunity as Walker ????? dare to answer the question this time tas ???

Didnt hear it last year but I thought he sounded like he wanted changes made !!!

It would be interesting to know who went to the meeting with the Big Pavs mngmnt though ???

Also heard the interview. Same sh!t different year.

A caller on 5AA last night questioned John Reid's role at the club and whether it needs to be reviewed. Is he Neil Craig's boss?

I heard this, and then switched off after getting the shits up big time!

It was a legitimate, well natured question from a bloke who sounded nice enough, only for KG's angry pills to kick in and get stuck into this bloke because he had the temerity to question one of KG's mates!

The Adelaide boys club is alive and well still in 2007!!

Sorry, was heading off topic ... On the subject, Reid's position should be assessed based upon performance and attributes possible successors could bring to the table, as all positions should!

that was my guess. with what happened with perrie not being wanted by North Adelaide i dont give him much chance of holding his spot on the list and with John Meeson the crows have to get rid of one ruckman because Trent Hentschel has to come off the long term injury list. and he is last in line you would think

So did he 'say' this,or is it your guess?

Moving 6 or 7 players on is a sure fire sign you are planning to use draft picks down into the last round or two,and you also believe the players you are yet to blood have the goods.Big call Prof. Boring.

Didak would be good but I still feel a quality mid-fielder should be on the target list

Maybe the draft can address that gap instead - at least we have an earlier pick than the last 2 years

I'd reckon there'd be zero chance of getting Westhoff

Obviously Port would normally be in the hunt for Didak if he wants to come home but they currently have arguably the best group of small forwards in the league right now so prob don't need him?
