Won the Copeland at 22 and polled 16 brownlow votes this year. Hasn't even hit his peak.

Will mainly be a loss because he was the best inside clearance player at the club. Probably why we jumped at Greenwood.

Swans have said they will be very quiet this trade period... will be nice not getting abused for once during this period

unless we make a lake charge at Ryder 8-[

Brisbane had to front load contracts this year to meet paying the minimum 95% salary cap requirement.

i dont like the fact that clubs have to pay 95% of the salary cap. makes it a lot harder to load up a war chest to either poach a big name, or to help keep guys that might come out of contract. also inflates guys' salaries who clearly arent worth it.

Surely G Ablett Jnr will be a Swan next year. I heard the injury was faked, and the real reason he didnt play out the year was because he told the coaching staff he was playing for Sydney next year and was dropped.

AFL have intervened with the Port-Ryder deal. Ryder can have his contract voided, through club and player, means he can join Port as a Free agent. Essendon would receive pick 17 and 21. It seems though Essendon are trying to hold on to him as no one wants to go to them.

People talk about an exodus out of Essendon, but what is going on at Geelong?

on the afl website it says that Essendon cant receive port's pick 17 and a compensation pick, they will just get a compo pick which would be 20 or 21.

Essendon must be looking at trading another player to port. Doesn't make sense why they would look at it if Port have already offered pick 17. If they did let Ryder go as free agent and traded another player for pick 17, they would end up with pick 17, 20 and 21. Currently they have pick 20 and their next pick is 53.

Makes plenty of sense
We can offload someone of little trade value like Hardingham, Kavanagh or Jetta for pick 21 to Port.
Would give us picks 17,20,21 which could be very useful.
Dont think this will get done though, would imagine the other clubs would be filthy that the AFL are trying to broker a better deal for us

Saints are offering him a pretty high pick and reckon he declared that he wanted to go there. Dont know much about the kid to comment on if he is any good or not.
We will definately struggle to bring in players apart from the draft, only chance is picking up a couple of players that Bass is friendly with. Baulderstore will end up coming over

This was stated on the AFL website, so don't those would qualify for pick 17.

If Ryder joins Port as a free agent, Port would have to receive fair and reasonable compensation from Essendon via a player or picks if it still sought to trade pick No.17 to the Bombers.

The AFL actually isn't doing you a deal. This is allowed and is how Del Santo went to North. So clubs can't really say anything about it.

Has to be fair still. Eg: hardingham for pick 17 won't be allowed.

Reckon this could get ugly.
Will be interesting to see what happens next and if this clause would stand up.
The AFL would be trying to get a deal done, dont think they want this going to court, if Essendon choose to fight it through the courts Ryder could be out of the game for 12 months which no one wants to see.
