The only thing I can think of is if Jones can walk for free, they are effectively throwing him in anyway to sweeten the deal. But even trading Cooney and 45 for 28 is wrong...

Hardingham played 8 games in 2014 and in his last 5 games averaged less than 4 possessions. Kavanagh played 3 games in 2014. Winderlich wanted to retire. I don't think Essendon were going to keep these blokes on anyway. There is also the situation that Ben Howlett will reportedly only stay if Hird stays. So far the only player on the move that Essendon would regard as required is Ryder. It will be very interesting to see what happens when the 60,000+ members get their say.
